@17:00, 11/3/10

Many of the leaves are down without much drama. They have dried to the texture of corn flakes.  It is the season of leaf fires but they are banned.  Smoke is considered a public health menace.  It probably is but though delicious, it is not addictive.  As you see New York is doing OK  in the election.  The reactionaries out in the real country are sure they are paying for the city's luxuries.  It may even be true at the moment.  The drain of the financial business has forced real estate so high that cities may be parasitic. Bankrupt buildings will change that.  Jane Jacobs taught the mechanism.

    How Obama Saved Capitalism and Lost the Midterms
    Obama certainly tried to save the country.
    It is terribly damaged and appears to be caught in a liquidity trap.
    The perils will continue.  Tune in for the 2012 episode.

      I do not expect them to succeed in that effort.  2014 is the kick in date.  Conditions should steadily improve until then when they will be as good as this law will make them.  I the immediate disaster is bad enough, we will have real progressive dominance in 2012.  Learning costs this country.

      Yes, the business pages. They are expecting inflation. We are seeing deflation except in the stock market.  There money is clammoring to get in as a hedge against the inflation that is not coming. The next event will be deflation but first we will see one more pop in the financial markets.  My plan is to sell when the market staggers.
      I may not catch the signal. I would then be stuck with a modest cash pad and some valuable but low priced securities.  Other things will be very cheap for several years.  Until this election result there was a good deal of uncertainty about the near future.  We are now as committed to wet feet as we can be.  We will loose Florida and all of the delta. If that happens Alameda and the mission district(?) are history as is the Imperial Valley. The Whooping and Sand Hill cranes will have to move their wintering grounds. Houston will have problems with wet feet.  I have not really looked at the rest of the world.  Pacific atolls rill be under water. Eastern Australia and  all of
      Bangladesh will be gone or deeply in trouble.  I had not considered Siberia and the Canadian Arctic. There will be lots of trouble for your planning convenience.  North Africa will be much wetter. Fresh or salt Is a question. Probably both.  China will be shocked as the coastal low lands become more uninhabitable.  No emergencies in these things unless people fight them. They will do that.  We can bet that the American South will not accept the blame.

      I don't want to start a business here because such a thing would make it a great deal harder for me to relocate. At this point I could lease a van, fill it with tools and go. There is some art and some books here that I would like to return for but very little else.

      Fall Foliage Gums Up Subways in Brooklyn
      Fallen leaves have slicked the rails of several open-air subway lines, including the Franklin Avenue shuttle in Brooklyn. And that means delays for riders.

      The leaves are coming down with little colour. Chill but still no frost. Maybe tonight.

      Barefoot is the way if you can trust the surface. I wear shoes in the shop because there are always sharps on the floor.  The streets are much the same. Beaches tend to self clean. Worn trails need shoes.
      I have been learning that sandals are enough.  Boots are the wrong approach for the woods and for most of life.
      Gloves in the shop just get me into trouble.

    Where Do Democrats Go Next?
    The Democrats can recover from the disappointments of the midterm election, if they learn from the results, Evan Bayh writes.
