The 31 Places to Go in 2010
      “The 31 Places to Go in 2010 - http://nyti.ms/5ggz1e”

Your choice. I like the idea of Minorca#14, and would just as soon skip skiing, I never learned how.  A party scene is not my choice.
Lots of warm empty beach seems a very good idea.  A short hop to the continent and all the art and design that is.  Seoul, I have been looking at that stuff for fifteen years. I am where they got some of it.

Nazis Were Given ‘Safe Haven’ in U.S., Report Says
A secret history of the government’s Nazi-hunting operation concludes that intelligence officials created a “safe haven” for Nazis and collaborators.

YES. That was done.  Not the proudest moment in our history but it has not been hidden for several decades.  The second world war was really nasty.  The "Black" war of the fifties was nastier if quieter.  Go read Le Carre.  He tells some of the story.  The details have sort of seeped out.

“Cigarette Giants in a Global Fight on Tighter Rules - http://nyti.ms/9sMUCe”
It reads like there will be nicotine wars rather like the opium war of the nineteenth century.  Let us keep sovereign forces out of this mess.  The mercenaries can have a party as long as they loose consistently.  Addiction is not a business.

Who Will Stand Up to the Superrich?
The issue is whether the country can afford the damage being done by the ever-growing income inequality between the wealthiest Americans and everyone else.
    Frank Rich is properly indignant.
We should consider that our "black" president is behaving rather rabbit like.  The Gullah are not Nigerian but are near neighbours.
"Please, please, please don't throw me in that briar patch." is a rather famous line.

      Traveling While Fat
      “funny travel journal http://nyti.ms/buGRIP”
Not very funny.  These are not my problems but aircraft accommodations are a subject I think on from time to time.
Southwest should design a fleet for the big and tall.  They would get a devoted following. One flight a day for the oversized would set schedules nationwide.

“A Revelatory and Original ‘Merchant of Venice’ - Review - http://nyti.ms/cwp5b4”
As I read it there is a good deal of drama in your life at the moment.
I am not at all sure who did what and with which and to whom but there is love and money wrapped into a knot.
I really do not care how it is resolved as long as I end up with you.

Myanmar Junta Frees Dissident Daw Aung San Suu Kyi
Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, a Nobel Peace laureate who was confined 15 of the last 21 years, was freed from house arrest.  The junta is still in charge. They still fear her.  Freedom will not last if she does not change.  She will not change.

The Code Words of Breast-Cancer Awareness
What message are girls really getting from breast-cancer activism?
The "any stick" approach has it's limits.   Early detection and survival is far better than early death.  The dead are no fun.

Here’s a Woman Fighting Terrorism. With Microloans.
Creating opportunities for women in places like Pakistan is the way to snuff out terrorism. Just ask a microfinance warrior named Roshaneh Zafar.    Most of us understand positive feedback.  Not a job but income.
Income is hope and that we all need.

‘Made in Dagenham,’ Not Made in Hollywood
“‘Made in Dagenham,’ Not Made in Hollywood - http://nyti.ms/dgnaTb”
The studios need to stop trying to hit the bulls eye every time. It is a moving target. their best approach is lots of films for modest budgets.
almost any film will find an audience and generate some positive cash flow.  Some will do very well.  make more films like those. Try not to make the same film over and over.  Everybody with a brain gets bored and the six year olds have no money.

Estimating the Pace of Sea-Level Rise
“NYT: A scientist's dream leads to refined estimates of 21st century sea rise from global warming: http://nyti.ms/duh1s1 ”
These methods are about melting land ice. they probably have that effect about right. They make no mention in the article of another independent effect. Warm water is bigger than cold water. The change is not big but it is very real. People encounter it every day.
There is a great deal of water on this planet and it couples well with the air. As the sea ice melts more sun will be adsorbed by the newly dark surfaces.  Warming will speed.
I will take the high end of the estimates and think they are conservative. Three feet is a lot.  80% (?) of Florida and all the Keys gone. The delta gone. Bangladesh gone. The Low Countries gone. Denmark gone.  Saint Petersburg gone.  The Sacrimento delta gone.
This just off the top of my head with a three foot rise.  Google earth can probably draw you a map of areas less than three feet above mean high water.  They are busy places.

Lead Actor Withdraws from Bollywood Hitler Film
A plan for the Bollywood film industry’s first feature about Hitler has already drawn an outcry from Indian moviegoers and historians, and now the project has lost the actor who was to play the lead character, Agence France-Presse reported.
What wonderful knots nationalism and ignorance make.
I saw some Bollywood at Stevens.  Early fifties B cinema just is not that good.

I would far rather hold you, happy and healthy, than deal with your early demise.  A therapy that does not cure looks cosmetic to me.

Defying Trend, Canada Lures More Migrants
Manitoba has won new power to bring foreigners in, handpicking ethnic and occupational groups.
When Republicans were ascendant in the 1920s there was a perceived labor glut.  The fix applied was a limit on immigration. The problem was a shut down of war manufacturing.  This pinch is about to hit us again.

    Cellphones and Cancer - A Far-From-Settled Issue
If you assumed that worries about cellphone radiation were unfounded, a new survey of scientific investigations suggests that you think again.

There are still people yearning for the lost Anastasia, the Hidden Imam, The Messiah, The water carburettor, Browns gas and Broadcast power.

There is always someone who can't take no for an answer.
