Morality is independent of religion. So are altruism and charity.

For Afghan Wives, a Desperate, Fiery Way Out
Many Afghan women set themselves on fire to escape lives of servitude and abuse.   Education works better and costs less.
    It is not Persian.

      Our Banana Republic

      Not ours.  Propaganda works.
That hole looks to be getting deeper.

    My Endless New York
Finding a home in a city that belongs to the world as much as it belongs to America.  An existential answer to a leading question.
What is a world city? => New York.    Q.E.D.
    A Joy to read.

    Our Banana Republic
No need to undertake dangerous travel to see what banana republic-style inequality looks like. Just look around. And postelection, it may get worse.
The fix is taxes.  Tax cuts wont do it.

      Red Eye
A visual diary documenting a flight from New York to Berlin (with a layover in London).
You have done enough air travel to understand.  Ship to Homburg.
Rail to Berlin.  They feed you and you can try to sleep. Through the Canal might be real fun. It would take about ten days to two weeks.

“Not worth .2% more?Compostable chip bags too loud? Just green not enough: Green Power’s High Cost Scuttles Projects - http://nyti.ms/dzxAvb”
Sunk costs (Investments in the present system) sink projects (make low continuing cost construction politically impossible).

Obama Backs India for Security Council Seat
In a speech to India’s parliament on the third and final day of his visit on Monday, President Obama called for India to be given a permanent seat on the U.N. Security Council.
Far better than their current status but short of the superpower credibility they want.  There should be more Sikhs in the officer corps.  Aristocracy has never worked in India.  Rot likes the heat.

Ross Douthat views the situation with alarm.  That is doing well, for him.
He still has not understood the full glory of the conundrum the Bush administration left in its wake.
      Faith is a wonder.

While Warning About Fat, U.S. Pushes Cheese Sales
When sales of Domino’s Pizza were lagging, a government agency stepped in with advice: more cheese. This is the same government that, for health reasons, is advising less cheese.

The Fed - Doing It Again
As Ben Bernanke, the Fed chairman, tries to use monetary policy to aid the economy, he is getting the Obama treatment — and making the Obama response.
Less is something less than nothing.
The structure is delightful.  The concept, terrifies me.

If you wanted to try it:
I think craigs list is a better model than Vouge  with chat rooms.
I am thinking in terms of an orientation sorted listing of content and advertising.
A "For we who like girls" listing and a "For we who like guys" listing" Perhaps a "For we who like listing" listing for those who can't decide. You could use a double blind to protect privacy. Listers and content providers would be Listers,  would have to have a mail drop on the site and sign their work with the mailing eddress  Boxes with unread content would be deleted along with their attached listings  The box content would receive an auto response.  Lots of detail to be thought on. chat spaces are just  one.
