@23:40

This needs more attention.  I must sleep.  There is a nonsequitor in Friedman I have not explored.  People who did not inhale the culture as infants do study harder.

    Afghanistan and Vietnam
    The trap we are in in Afghanistan is not like Vietnam.  We are working on that.

    Loving Coffee Without Being a Drip
    In these food-mad times, have the economically privileged among us gone too far in turning simple acts of nourishment into complicated rituals?
    These days I make good coffee with a paper cone and Stop &shop canned coffee standard grind, medium roast. I play but the product sought is good coffee.

    U.S.G. and P.T.A.
    What does texting have to do with the unemployment rate? The connection is surprising.
    It is amazing how Thomas Friedman can Misdirect his attention.  It could not possibly be management dutifully chasing low wages to distant countries that squeezes middle class wages and wiped out blue collar work in this country.  It could not be the accent on socialization that drives clumping in middle school and poor academic performance in the upper grades.
    The problems we face will not be solved by scolding.  We need to create industries and then refuse to send them overseas. The Chinese are perfectly capable of creating their own industries.  The USG can ease the pain but cannot fix the problem directly.  The PTA does what it can. It cannot pay for good teachers. Local government must do that by taxing the population.

    Ex-House Leader DeLay Found Guilty in Texas Case
    A Texas jury found Tom Delay, the former House majority leader, guilty in a money-laundering trial involving contributions to political campaigns.
    I think he is guilty.  Will he serve his time or has he a "get out of jail free" card ?

      Opinions on Cathleen Black as Schools Chancellor

      The NYC school system does not need economic management.
      It needs to produce an optimum result for the children.  This will require something I do not know how to specify. The Mayor may have to interview a group of applicants and pick one who can define the job.
