    Eating the Irish
That “bailout” for Ireland mostly seems to be about the government imposing even more pain on its people, in exchange for a credit line. It’s not a workable strategy.
But the banks will do well out of it.  The rich stay rich.
They are conservative Catholics. Pain is a feature, not a bug.

These days I have very little time for video in any form.
The fashion wave does VOD. DVD is plenty fast for most purposes. Big screen really does better on a big screen

Bloggers Get Their Due from 'The Tonight Show'
It was almost a blink-and-you-missed-it moment, but early Wednesday morning “The Tonight Show” made good on its word and gave credit to two bloggers for providing a montage of Taylor Swift video clips that had Jay Leno played for the country singe...
If they got their due the TV would be off.

Giving Nurses a Leading Role in the Future of Health Care
“Nurses' Role in Future of Health Care - http://nyti.ms/bd2vZy - As long as it safetly matches their education, skills, and training”
" And it is not spiraling costs or an overreliance on technology that is weighing most heavily on the health care system, but the sheer volume of patients it must serve." A first statement plainly contrary to fact. The population has not grown. Care may not be denied on the ability to pay.

The report is good, The reporter doubtful. Management sees nursing as a cost rather than a benefit.  A physician is a consultant. Patient contact is nursing.  Better patient contact is skilled nursing.

Norfolk, Va., on Front Line, Tackles Rise in the Sea
As sea levels rise, tidal flooding is disrupting life in the city and all along the East Coast, a development many climate scientists link to global warming.

The problem the residents have is how to get paid to move.  The neighbourhood was a pipe dream and the money has long since left the area. A house on the water will be all wet.

The idea was that the MFI was not a bank and thus could take risks at rates of return that were commercially unacceptable. This is the difference between an MFI and a money lender.

Los Angeles Mass Transit Is Expanding
The auto-obsessed city has embarked on the biggest expansion of its mass transit system in decades.
The highways are choked. neither buses or cars can move. Gas is going up.
Split attention in cars is a really bad idea. Time for rail links. It may even be time for that great 1908 innovation, the four track system.

    Handguns for 18-Year-Olds?
The N.R.A.’s argument that people 18 to 20 years old have a constitutional right to buy weapons and carry them in public is breathtakingly irresponsible.
The intersection between the NRA and rational humans is vanishingly  small. Much smaller than the intersection between the class of NRA members and Jacksonians.

Los Angeles Mass Transit Is Expanding
“Los Angeles Mass Transit Is Expanding a good start to end LA's love affair with the car - http://nyti.ms/gNJtim”
This author has spent two pages trying to dodge the independent variable in the transit model, dollars/mile. Buses have no time advantage over cars. Trains do not use the same space. They do not use the same fuels. Their cost can in large part be shifted to the tax system. They provide employment to the trades.

In Land of Aging, Children Ease Alzheimer’s Bite
South Korea is training thousands, including children, as “dementia supporters,” to recognize symptoms and care for patients.
Seems to me about sixty years ago the frail all died in all of Korea.  Before that the Japanese took care of the frail in their imperious way.
She is doing rather well for her age and condition. She is almost independent.

Netflix a Fast-Growing Rival to Hollywood and Cable
Netflix has a strong grip on movie and television distribution — a grip Hollywood and cable TV want back.
There is an easy way to get it.
    Make new product.
Production controls distribution in a very profound way.
    It works for books too.
