Growing Up Digital, Wired for Distraction

Most of this articles complaint is a failure to learn the language as an art form. Spelling can be ignored beyond the concept that there is a spelling and it is vaguely phonetic.  Spell check will nag the kids into doing it right.Grammar check is probably useless.  Homonyms could be checked.
What the children need to learn is rhetoric. The beauty and music of language and the demand for written output that is a pleasure to read and sticks in the mind is a place to start.
Similarly mathematical modelling can be taught as an aesthetic exercise.
