      Our Banana Republic
“Our Banana Republic - http://nyti.ms/bBWnjQ /Thanks GWBush. You've cut taxes and put us in the 3rd World.”   A cultural shift that has not permeated life yet.  There are not enough very rich.

While Warning About Fat, U.S. Pushes Sales of Cheese
When sales of Domino’s Pizza were lagging, a government agency stepped in with advice: more cheese. This is the same government that, for health reasons, is advising less cheese.

    Our Banana Republic
No need to undertake dangerous travel to see what banana republic-style inequality looks like. Just look around. And postelection, it may get worse.

It will be.   The very rich do not yet have the presumption of privilege
New grads show it,  it fades in about a month..

      iPhones for Toddlers
      “iPhones for Toddlers - undefined”
A version that bounced would be very nice.
The toddlers I have known took great glee in throwing things on to the floor.

Early Lessons in Tolerance Prompt Fights Over ‘Hidden Homosexual Agenda’
Lessons to teach acceptance of homosexuality, which have gained urgency after suicides, are causing culture wars.
It is hard to find the enemy if they do not self identify.
I just wish gay was a "Life Style".  Psychiatry could fix that.  The world would be much more relaxed.  Paranoid Parent Protection must end!

    Texas Considers Medicaid Withdrawal
Texas Republicans are considering more seriously than ever whether to save money by dropping out of the federal Medicaid program.

I would love to see them try it.  "No country for old men" would come east.
Not the movie, The fact. Old Women too. Only the elderly rich and the healthy young could live there.  All the hospitals would be bankrupt.  The Doctors would march out in lock step.  A thought free proposal.

Do Consumers Want Location-Based Social Networking?
“Do Consumers Want Location-Based Social Networking? - http://nyti.ms/aYzt30”
The advantages to advertisers are obvious.
      I do not advertise.
I want to talk to the leaders who would poke their noses into an unknown shop.
Initially they will be very few. When they are many, I can hire a sales person and think on production staff.

U.S. Limits Tarmac Waits for Passengers to Three Hours
“This 3-hr tarmac wait limit rule: http://nyti.ms/6g59Vp seems to have a major loophole. Airlines can blame any delay on safety or security.”
      Page not found
The airline is responsible for passenger safety and comfort.   SUE!

Politicians Caught in the Web in Past Images
Today’s generation of future leaders has grown up in a time when letting one’s guard down for Facebook friends to see is an afterthought.
Much of the country believes more in photoshop.  Just hang some visual clues on the pictures and the scandal goes away.
W escaped AWOL charges that way.

Obama Invokes Gandhi, Whose Ideal Eludes Modern India
Gandhi is revered in India, but his calls for personal austerity and nonviolence have proved antithetical to the goals of an aspiring economic and military power.  So plan cold start gets more play.

Microsoft vs. Software Piracy: Inside the War Room
Microsoft’s theft fight has implications beyond the bottom line in an industry that relies on intellectual property.

My preference is to use Linux.  Be aware that Microsoft indulges in Fear Uncertainty and Dread as much as in anything. The continued virus attack destroys any unprotected Microsoft code.  A rather neat clean up mechanism.   I have a good idea how it is that Linux has not taken over the world.  If it is free for download how could it be good?  It is. It is a volunteer and professional effort. The professionals are paid to keep systems running and their employers do not limit the distribution of the patches.  More effective patches lead to no effective assaults. No assaults is good. Everyone is happy.  Microsoft runs on the theory that only Microsoft should be happy.

The China Education Boom on U.S. Campuses
A wave of Chinese undergraduates is choosing American colleges. Culture shock? Beer pong, anyone?

I wonder how many of them will return to China?  How many of those will be able to stay and what their presence will do both to the universities and to the Chinese nation.    The Right would have this be a very temporary phenomenon.  I am unsure how the left will treat it.  Undergraduate habits are nothing to take home.  A big part wa learning to split ones life or not.
China now is very different from China under Mao.
