Jill Johnston, Avant-Garde Cultural Critic, Dies at 81
Ms. Johnston championed lesbian feminism and caused a scandal at a debate at Town Hall in Manhattan in 1971, when she and two women started hugging and kissing on stage.

Really I have nothing to add.

Why?  There is no argument made.  I don't much care what is popular.
The whole concept of popularity puzzles me. Explanation/instruction  required.

TARP Cost Will Be Less Than Once Thought
The reviled mother of all bailouts — $700 billion to banks, insurance and auto companies — will expire at a fraction of that cost and may even turn a profit.
It is a plan.  Military planners have a saying: "Plans never survive contact with the enemy." This is another example.  Anything to stave off the evil day that "Business Managers" have to admit general failure.

Singapore Math Adopted in More U.S. Schools
“Slower Pace=Deeper Understanding + More Confidence > Singapore Math Adopted in More U.S. Schools - http://nyti.ms/aup8vJ”
( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Singapore_math ) Instruction in arithmetic is mistimed.  It comes after the children are done learning language and before they have learned analytical thought.  The theory has been that this is the place to begin instruction in analytical thought.  It appears that the more deliberate pace does place it in the learning of analytical thinking.

I think the goal was very clear. The path to it is probably nonexistant.

Lone Sale of $4.1 Billion in Contracts Led to ‘Flash Crash’
In a long-awaited report, regulators said they had identified the sequence of events that erased more than 600 points from the Dow in minutes.
The chart does not match the reported scenario.  It looks like the collapse started early in the day and accelerated for several hours. A classic market crash.  Why the regulators come out with this obvious fiction is instructive.
The traders seem to have captured the regulators.
It is time to "Clean House".

Would You Wear a Camcorder on Your Ear?
“I can see where this is going and I'm both scared/excited... Would You Wear a Camcorder on Your Ear? - http://nyti.ms/c9VVnq”  A very useful tool for an initial response to a large scale problem. No need to try to reduce the assessment to a verbal report.  I do not see a large market for it. Retail operations will have to shape up. Restaurant reviews will be less subjective.  It might hammer the legal system. Fix "driving while black".  Happy goldfish bowl.

Make it real.  Take the time to get it in their little heads.
My problem was not getting it in, it was keeping it and getting it out.  The written word and the ordered string still give me pain.

Clowns are very hard working people.  Good clowning requires constant study and preparation.  If the audience is not laughing, there must be a reason.  For silliness we can watch Republicans.
They are not funny at all.
