Does the Digital Classroom Enfeeble the Mind?
“Does the Digital Classroom Enfeeble the Mind? - http://nyti.ms/aE0Qr2 the last paragraph is excellent!!”
      Agreed.
The point of this is that people cannot think / model / speculate / design with relationships that are not understood.  A process can be memorised and repeated to answer a test question.  If the conditions are not as required by that memorised process the examined is helpless.  If the process is understood it can be adjusted to yield the answer. Machines cannot relieve the mind of the requirement to understand.

      Scientifically Tested Tests
“Standardized tests don’t truly measure the qualities of well-educated children | NY Times http://nyti.ms/bRoXzw via @ToddKashdan #education”
Yes, And this person has not understood the problem or the the tests or the science involved.  That her child does not test well may well be of enormous concern to her. That does not make testing improper for the use it is applied to.  I suspect that standardized tests are intended to place control of the schools in the hands of the politicians.

Android Market Is Attracting More App Developers
“Even as Android sales surge, the market for Android apps is still anemic. Google wants to fix that. My Mon story -- http://nyti.ms/cT5Ytv”
Understand that android is a subset of Linux and Linux is passed around under the GPL (  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GPL )
Expecting income from an app shows incomprehension. It is possibly a pervasive problem.

“This Year at the CMJ Music Marathon, More of a Local Flavor - http://nyti.ms/9iRjqb”
The project was always to get some backing and dominate the world.
It does not appear to have changed.  A long car trip will let me know where pop is now.  I hope it is in a better place.

What Happened to Change We Can Believe In?
No matter how much the White House talks about “tough” new financial regulatory reforms, the Obama administration seems not to have a prosecutorial gene.
The Republicans have made it not a Federal problem.  If no law has been violated, no prosecution is possible.  First pass the reforms.
We have a constitutional rule against ex post facto laws. if we pass a reform now, all we can say is "Don't do it again.".

“Haiti Haiti Haiti. The latest from the @NYTimes. In #Haiti, Capital Braces for a #Cholera Outbreak - http://nyti.ms/aMPDpL #health”

This will "thin" the crowding.  It will not be enough and the price will be unbearable.  I keep trying to think how to "fix" Haiti without killing the population.  I am unsuccessful so far.

Android Market Is Attracting More App Developers
As Android phones gain market share, many app makers are rethinking their exclusive focus on iPhones.
Aplication developers are going to have to use a different business model.
This code will be written for a grade or for use or for an employer.  The code is then shared to increase the usefulness of the system for all who want to do the job the code does.  If the author is already compensated sharing the code is the equivalent of holding the door for the next person.

    Falling Into the Economic Chasm
The real story of this election is that of an economic policy that was inadequate to the task.
The stock market thinks dropping into this abyss is a good thing. I will sell after the post election run up.
Losses to taxes will be small compared to the crash that will ensue.

    Stories vs. Statistics
How do the worlds of storytelling and scientific probability differ? A mathematician counts the ways.
To good effect.  I simply meant that I do not really know much about post deployment deaths in the far west.  I have a few numbers but they are not very meaningful.  A very little more information would improve them.
