Clarence Thomas’s Wife Asks Anita Hill for Apology
Virginia Thomas, the wife of Clarence Thomas, called Anita Hill about sexual harassment accusations she made against Justice Thomas in 1991.
At the time Clarence Thomas was guilty as charged.  Ms. Hill had to be subpoenaed to get her testimony.  Wilful  ignorance and unadulterated gall.

Public Bravado, Private Doubts at Countrywide
“Public Bravado, Private Doubts at Countrywide - http://nyti.ms/9By9YR”
There was lots of public doubt.  Traditionally freebooters are hanged on capture.  A reasonable measure here.

      The British Tabloid Phone-Hacking Scandal
“The British Tabloid Phone-Hacking Scandal -Members of the royal household had their voice mail messages hacked into by News of the World employees. By DON VAN NATTA Jr., JO BECKER and GRAHAM BOWLEY Published: September 1, 2010 http://nyti.ms/aTj8yn”
Unless there is an update this is a killed story.
Britain has announced its short term death.  One day it may come out of depression but it will not be soon.  If I had any sense at all, I would buy pounds before the deflationary spiral accelerates.  We may see the annual income of one hundred pounds not be penury.

    Making Ignorance Chic
In the ’50s, Marilyn made it chic to be smart. Now Sarah makes it chic to be ignorant.
    A satisfying cheap shot.

TED Prize Goes to J R, Who Gives Slums a Human Face
The TED prize for 2011 will go to J R, who has made a name for himself by plastering downtrodden neighborhoods around the world with colossal photographs.  Do they like it?

Revolution should not be without risk.  There are plenty of "dirty tricks" to penetrate such a well publicized assembly. try not to poison the prosecution.  If that proves impossible  Holograph documents and sealed , voice-printable, recordings should be enough to defend against libel.

      Morals Without God?
“Can humans, like animals, be "moral" without God? Or are we, like animals, good "by nature?" - http://nyti.ms/dcTWDy (via @JustinTopp)”  I do not, off hand, see the difference.
We can measure "good" behaviour.  We cannot, even in people, measure motivation. If the difference is one of motivation it can be ignored.

Koch Industries and Network of Republican Donors Plan Ahead
Donors will head to Palm Springs in January, but not to relax after the elections — to plan for the next round.
In January they should know if they have the congress they want.

Some Fear Armstrong Inquiry Will Taint Charity
As a federal investigation into doping takes shape, some fear the effect on the reputation of Lance Armstrong and his charity work.

That is the whole idea of the investigation.  If he were guilty he would already be caught.  They have passed a lot of rules in the meantime.

If the machine structure of the game is taught and not the game,  The kids are learning what they need to know.  The blinking lights are just the bait and the immediate reward.  The kids are learning to read, calculate, interact and think.  A great primary education.

In China, a City With Lots of Buildings, but Few People
China’s sizzling economy created a speculative real estate market — and ghost towns.
We have seen this in the world trade and empire state. The surrounding city eventually filled them.  It is much more like that colony town in Alaska, closed as uneconomic without the subsidy.
China is developing a real problem.  Housing projects are filled with victims and predators in all cases.

Pentagon Lets Recruiters Take Openly Gay Applicants
The Pentagon e-mailed new instructions to recruiters on Oct. 15 for handling situations in which applicants volunteer their sexual orientation.
This looks like unconditional surrender.  The appeal will be filed as a pro forma move with no hope of success.

Useful.  A business opportunity might be a zero volatile no mildew curtain based on an unbacked scale-mail.  It would be built like a shingled or tiled roof.  Could be a wire thatch.  Making it of glass or other ceramic rather than metal or wood or for that matter waxed paper.  The fact that it is not plastic is the selling point.  I have seen curtains of retired sail cloth.  Not a bad approach but a hard sell in most of the country.

    Is Pure Altruism Possible?
I really don't know.  The author thinks so.  I tend to agree.  I have been shown that altruism is the guiding principle of military training.  It is the form that is used for veteran appreciation.
Could PTSD be at root a conflict between altruistic training and purposing and the profound self interest of command?

Taliban’s Elite, Aided by NATO, Join Talks for Afghan Peace
Discussions are unfolding between the inner circle of President Hamid Karzai and top Taliban commanders, who are secretly leaving their sanctuaries in Pakistan with the help of NATO troops, officials say.

The Taliban are the second most powerful group in Afghanistan.  It makes sense to try to make peace with them when the most powerful group withdraws.

This can only provide hope for the future.  The pain is real and immediate.
If there is no hope they can exercise a sort of stoicism and deal with the present moment by moment.  Not pleasant but anaesthetised.
Hope adds anticipation of improvement to an awareness of present despair and the risk of disappointment.  Passive acceptance becomes active participation.

From Obama, the Tax Cut Nobody Heard Of
The Obama stimulus bill cut taxes for 95 percent of working families, but few voters noticed, a troubling sign for Democrats.

There is eternal noise from the capital.  Cash in hand buys attention.   Cash extracted draws screams.
