    Morals Without God? YES.
The Stone is a forum for contemporary philosophers on issues both timely and timeless.      YES, morals do not require a god.
What use have I for god?  Lets leave her out of this.

      Three R’s for Extreme Longevity
      “Three R’s for Extreme Longevity - http://nyti.ms/do35og”
A bit of real wealth helps so very much.  Friends and companions are vital.  Good luck has a lot to do with it but less than it did.  I must get mother out in the world now she does not hurt all the time.

We may have enough time but never too much.

Scholars Return to ‘Culture of Poverty’ Ideas
Decades after Daniel Patrick Moynihan, scholars are conceding culture and persistent poverty are enmeshed.

I wonder why this author phrases it as Moral Deficiency.
As far as I can see morality is dependent on culture and not the reverse.
I am sure Daniel Patrick Moynihan never phrased it as moral deficiency.
A cultural snare.  In 1952 he may have attached it to colour but I doubt it.
He was a politician who had my real respect as few do.

I am having difficulty with the pictures.
    Solved.
Yes, Art school for me was a great deal like the Bolshoi School.
It may not have looked it to you.  Only a very few professors at Pratt still run that way.  Parsons does not in most of the school.  The fashion school may do it.

Cyberwar Chief Calls for Secure Computer Network
“Cyberwar Chief Calls for Secure Computer Network - http://nyti.ms/9MyItw”
His best bet to succeed with his mission is to let the backbone of the net simply pass packets.  If there is no sorting there is no way to corrupt the sorting.  Strong encryption of the packet contents will protect them. They would have to be intercepted and that would involve a duplicate address a very detectable presence. Guarding the domain name server, as it is a unique or near unique address on the web should be easy.  The problems of securing individual machines are under constant study and development. So far the Unix architecture has been most successful.
If our government can get through the noise made by proprietary systems adoption of the Unix standard would greatly advance security at almost no cost.

The sooner we stop worrying about Islamic Terrorism the sooner we can get action.
There is no substitute for action.  A navel blockade might be a step.  Gunboat diplomacy does not look good in the UN but it has uses.

Can the iPhone Thrive in Apple’s Closed Ecosystem?
Apple’s PC-versus-Mac battle almost put it out of business. Is it creating a similar one in the smartphone field?
    Simple answer: : : YES!
I will probably get an android without a contract.

Google Struggles to Build Social Features
Google likes to have its finger on the pulse of the Web, and that’s becoming harder to do as users increasingly use closed networks like Facebook.

They can chase the advertising gold strikes just as long as they leave my usage alone.  My intention is to delete all before I abandon it.  If we can make a deal I will pass you editing access.

    Confronting Income Inequality
Economics was founded by moral philosophers, and links between the two disciplines remain strong. So why won’t economists make judgments on the gap between rich and poor?

    They do.  This is one.

    Rare and Foolish
China’s rare-earth monopoly is yet another example of its refusal to play by the rules.

We need tariff protection to deal with this.
We are not going to get it soon.
The minerals in question have a high concentration of Thorium which the EPA considers a very dangerous pollutant.
More pain will get action.  More pain also hurts incumbent office holders.
To them incumbency is the only thing that matters.

Who Will Benefit From National Education Standards? - Room for Debate
“Who Will Benefit From National Education Standards? - Room for Debate - http://nyti.ms/c3jZJN”
Ordinarily we effete easterners do not get to fiddle with what gets taught to the bible belt.  I would like to do just that.  I think a set of standards just might convince the universities to think about there admissions policies more. Actually these standards are already in place as the SATs  Why have these nationally standardised examinations not entered this discussion?  I we have a standard and apply as we do, why are there people who do not believe the results?
Is it that the anual results are not reduced on a school by school, district by district, state by state basis.  I seem to remember that the exam was not offered across the board to all students.  This could change.  We have standards testing.  Let us apply it to tell us how our education system is doing not just the level of scholarship aid that will be offered to an individual student by an individual school.

Facebook Admits to Privacy Issue and Makes Fixes

"...some applications had been improperly sharing the data with advertisers and Web tracking companies."

These "prospectors" might sell this information in bulk. I would be very reluctant to pay the price they would ask.  There is only one person I really want to talk to and I am doing that.  I would like that person to speak directly to me so I would not have to guess at meanings.  I cannot force that without ruining what I have.  I really would hate to do that so I wait and content myself with  this one and a half way communication.

I will sleep.  My dreams do not inform me.  They do comfort me.
