    End the War on Pot
Here’s a way to save Americans billions of dollars and end needless violence: legalize marijuana.

There was a pest, the screw worm fly(?) that is gone.  I think it was done by releasing a great many sterile females which monopolized the males. In a few breading cycles there was no breading population left.
I have not heard of this with the new pests.

Not here.  President Obama is a good fit for this description of a leader.  I have the impression that Thomas Friedman is searching for "Triumph of the Will" II.  The torchlight parades will frighten people.

Firms Knew of Cement Flaws Before Spill, Panel Says
Halliburton and BP knew weeks before the blast on a rig in the Gulf of Mexico that the cement mixture they planned to use to seal the well was unstable, a commission found.
The cement was bad.  That was not what failed.

I expect the seat crunch will ease as business travel slackens. The question will be the stability of the airlines. Reorganization can wipe out those miles.

Both the bank and the borrower must do due diligence. Debtors prison is no more but there are those who believe in slavery.
If the law does not change perhaps we should charter a ship with charitable funds and ship debtors to the former colonies.

Can’t Keep a Bad Idea Down
All that’s missing this campaign season is serious debate about the important stuff.
A very sad thing is that these are not the important stuff.
If the factories are here, the jobs will be here.
I have never heard a shop manager complain that able people did not come forward.
I have heard that the demanded price was excessive.
I have never heard that cell phones were not available.
I have heard that the price of minutes was excessive.
I have heard that service was slow or unavailable
Bell Labs, our premier private research organization, Spun off at the breakup of AT&T. The Reorganisation built Lucent Technologies around and Western Electric. The thought was that the Manufacturing arm would support the laboratory.  Modern management by the name of Fioreno was installed and proceeded to see the lab as a useless expense. The support organization was broken up, the work outsourced and the"useless" hulk was sold to Alcatell. Ms. Fioreno now wants to "Manage" the State of California.

There seems to be a good deal of confusion as to what the function of the cement was and what the mechanism of a blowout is.  What is unclear, possibly intentionally, is that the unsatisfactory nature of the cement was known to both Haliburton and BP before the cement was installed.  That it was installed with at least the quiescent consent of the BP management. That the consequent failure of the cement had no consequences in the blowout.  The cement was not causal.
