    Making Ignorance Chic
In the ’50s, Marilyn made it chic to be smart. Now Sarah makes it chic to be ignorant.  She tries. Very.
We really need a padded cell for her.

Koch Industries and Network of Republican Donors Plan Ahead
“Koch Industries and Network of Republican Donors Plan Ahead - http://nyti.ms/9XZhu6”
Plotting revolution should draw reporters even if it does not draw law enforcement.  I want to read the expose almost as much as I hope for their frustration.  There really is a right wing conspiracy.  It holds conventions.  As Robert Moses was told "What's a poor millionaire to do?"

    The D.I.Y. Foreign-Aid Revolution
Why wait for governments or established charities to assist rape victims, orphans or impoverished women when you can start an NGO in your basement and do it yourself?  I don't know them or want to know them. I don't want to throw money at problems I don't understand.  I want to fix the world, not say well, I tried and wash my hands.
Doing well by doing good seems the very best way.

From Obama, the Tax Cut Nobody Heard Of
“From Obama, the Tax Cut Nobody Heard Of - http://nyti.ms/cPfr8h”
It is just a promise until the checks don't go in.  Tax cuts have no effect on taxes that are not. No income, no income tax. Not a tax cut anyone desires.

China Said to Expand Rare Earths Embargo to West
“US look into unfair Chinese trade practices in #Clean Tech leads to embargo on rare earth exports to US- not good -http://Ynyti.ms/dm7wSf”
Actually it is wonderful.  There are domestic deposits nearly as rich as those in China. The problem is that they are tainted with thorium, classed as a radioactive toxic.  We need to design and licence a refinery and put some hard rock miners back to work.  They will be glad of the income and the manufacturers will be glad of the rare earths.  A finger in the eye of the Chinese trade ministry won't hurt us and we can do some business with Japan.  We need to get busy.

TED Prize Goes to J R, Who Gives Slums a Human Face
The TED prize for 2011 will go to J R, who plasters colossal photos in downtrodden neighborhoods around the world.
This is not my choice of an approach.  I much prefer more direct feedback
from my efforts.  This seems so fugitive.  There must be ways to fix the world more directly.

Anita Hill Asked to Apologize by Justice Thomas’s Wife
Virginia Thomas called Ms. Hill about sexual harassment accusations she made against Justice Thomas in 1991.
A mortal insult to Anita Hill.  She made no accusations She testified as to his actions.  Check the record.  There are fact checking organizations.

In Digital Age, Students Still Cling to Paper Textbooks
Though the world of print is receding before a tide of digital offerings, college students weaned on technology appear to be holding fast to traditional textbooks, but at a price.
I have tried a few times to do a course without the text or with a wrong edition.  It does not work unless the course is set up for it.  I had a lit course at Parsons the second time that simply required that we read some edition.  I had a good time with the used book stores looking for interesting edits.  Aced the course.  Taught the class that drama can be extracted from printed verse.  So very much is available on line for free.
Maybe the pressure will get good writing into the texts.  I do not do it well as yet.

‘It Gets Better’ Offers Hope and Help to Gay Youth
“‘By @brianstelter on the "It Gets Better" project: Offers Hope and Help to Gay Youth - http://nyti.ms/aB03fS”

These days I am not a youth and I have never been gay.
I do understand hope, hope deferred and hope denied.  Hope denied is perhaps the easiest to deal with.  Death is something we are required to cope with. It is hope denied. You learn from it. The changes are irreversible so you dump the things that are useless and go on. Things are grey for a time but it passes as you learn not to look for the things that cannot be.  Hope is a joy to deal with. New worlds of possibility open. It is spring in ones heart and all is possible.  Hope deferred is if anything blacker than hope denied. Risk enters the picture.  The Joy is doubly shadowed by threats and uncertainty. There is the possibility that the condition of joy will not be.  To a gay child The pain of not being like the others must seem eternal. To discover that there are others must be the greatest of joys.  To then be thrust back into dealing with personal unacceptability is black and bitter disappointment. There is no future to a child.  Everything is this moment.  The "It gets better" postings may not be the best way. It is certainly a better way than eternal damnation and present utter rejection.
I  can live with hope deferred.  I have done so for decades.  It was deeply deferred and my grey sky was thinning and brightening.  Then there was a flash and I found myself back in the dark.  I know that there are two ways for me to survive. Is it any wonder That I want the fast bright one?  I want hope. It is delayed but not late.

“Iran Defends Rights Record as Opposition Cancels Rally - http://nyti.ms/9Hyk44”
There is no question that Iran has a nasty government.  There are too many dead and too much misery in the name of Islam.  If we want to negotiate with them we must do it in good faith.  They are not Stupid and they have been abused in the past.  If we want regime change we must do it quietly.  For good reason they mistrust us.

“Would you call this backlash? Anita Hill Asked to Apologize by Justice Thomas’s Wife - http://nyti.ms/cUWQW4”
I would call this prejudice combined with profound ignorance.
I would also call it grounds to impeach Convict and remove Justice Thomas.
If Anita Hill were to shoot Justice Thomas I would have to call it justifiable homicide and send her home with a medal.
