Norma Jean Never did a great deal for me.  I was too young for her when she was at her peak and then I liked you. You never followed either of these tracks.

      Is Pure Altruism Possible?
“As a recovering psycho-egoist, I'm enjoying this NYT piece and its comments :: Is Pure Altruism Possible? - http://nyti.ms/appjX1”

I am glad she is finding some satisfaction down that path.
I would suggest another.  Voluntary military service seems a thoroughly altruistic  activity.  Though the rewards are better than they were they are far less than what is offered by the private sector.  The mercenary operations of the recent campaigns illustrate that.
Units are trained to mutual support, called unit cohesion.
There are rewards for death in the line of duty but they are modest. There are prizes for survival.
The veterans benefits may get kids in the recruiter's door but it is altruism called unit cohesion that keeps them going in the direction ordered.
      We recruit them for altruism.
      We train them for altruism.
We send them out for altruism.
We use them to murder for oil company profits.
It is no wonder that as this obtrudes into their minds on their return they cannot live with themselves.
The suicides, by whatever means, are the best and the brightest.

      Why We Honored Liu Xiaobo
“I agree with the award (of course) and sentiment, but this feels defensive and weak. Why We Honored Liu Xiaobo - http://nyti.ms/arGGnU”
Norway is not a world power.
Alfred Nobel was a world power.
      He was also Norwegian.
On his death He gave as much of his power as he could to his country.
His country, Norway, has used it to very good effect.
All honour to them and to him.

I agree that it is still too big.   I have more experience with institutions and their people than I want and less than I need to do good design work on them.  The pay would have to be generous.

Shoe design needs attention.  My shoes have not been right for a long time.  The problem is a reorganization at the local department store I used Wiped out the supplier's local outlet and market pressures wiped out the shoe I found.  I need to give it attention I don't have.

Facebook Advertisers Can Glean Private Data
Two recent academic papers show that in certain circumstances, advertisers on Facebook may be able to learn sensitive profile information, like a person’s sexual orientation or religion.
Just be very careful how you use your facebook  page.  It can be mined by people who are interested.  The system looks to have been built by a lonely and socially  inept person as a tool for the socially inept.  Expect it to behave inertly.

A huge trove of secret field reports from the battlegrounds of Iraq sheds new light on the war, including such fraught subjects as civilian deaths, detainee abuse and the involvement of Iran.

Why Can’t Middle-Aged Women Have Long Hair?
At a certain age, cutting your hair is considered the appropriate thing to do, as if being shorn is a way of releasing oneself from the locks of the past.
Most women put a great deal of time and effort into hair.  Less hair, Less time and effort. The relation does not seem to hold.
    Go for it.
    I do.
There is no reason to wait around while it grows.
