Charge of Sham Candidacy in New Jersey House Race
Jon Runyan, a Republican, is running against Representative John Adler, a Democrat. Some question the authenticity of a third candidate, Peter DeStefano.
A sham charge.  A name belongs to the first to register it.

Wind Power Backbone Sought Off Atlantic Coast
Google and a financial firm have agreed to invest in a proposed $5 billion transmission system for offshore wind farms that could transform the East Coast’s electrical map.
    Yes,
"But the economics remain uncertain, he warned, For now, he said, the biggest impediment may be that the market price of offshore wind energy is about 50 percent higher than that of energy generated on land."

The Crisis of the Humanities Officially Arrives
I know a man who makes a fine living restoring Byzantine art.
George W. Bush never needed them. (The Humanities)
Obviously we again have elite education.
It is not to be found at SUNY Albany.

      Going Solo Gets Crowded
“Everyone loves a good story. Here's my plan tonight (old article, same concept) Going Solo Gets Crowded - http://nyti.ms/c8Hwro”

Like the idea.  I would gladly attend.  I can't justify the time in my present circumstances.  Two hours travel two hour event, hour meal, prep time.  most of a day. I will have to get an edited feed on pod cast or a stream.

OK, This is a very long way from a done deal.  These schemes have blown up too many times to get my support yet.  It will probably be A.C. coax does not have the radiation problems of open wire systems.

      Coffee, TV or Wi-Fi?
“What can you give up for a week? Coffee, TV or Wi-Fi? - http://nyti.ms/cqu6Sb”
My first choice is TV.  I will survive coffee withdrawal.  I have done so many times.  Wi-fi I can easily do without but the net with reasonable speed is another matter. Without a net connection I would have to give this up.  For me almost nothing runs in backkground. there is really only one thing at a time I am attending to.

    The Paralysis of the State
The proposed New York/New Jersey tunnel raises a crucial question: Why are important projects now unaffordable?

David Brooks would have governments be thieves.  Governments have made commitments to their workers for salaries and benefits. These were to be funded as current expenses against income. Among the benefits are pensions and medical coverage. These continuing costs were to be funded with a capital accumulator attached to salary.  Apparently these accumulations, the responsibility of the government, did not happen.
David Brooks and these governments now weep because they find themselves with a predictable unfunded liability.

When did government lack of foresight become their retirees emergency?

Collect the taxes and pay the bills.

Despite Army’s Prevention Efforts, Suicides Continue
“Despite Army’s Prevention Efforts, Suicides Continue - http://nyti.ms/c3lNMw”          I don't want to read this.  I will.

I speak from a very limited experience of veterans and suicides.
Obviously a suicide found himself unable to live with himself(herself).
In these cases the prescribed drugs were not sufficient.
The effectiveness of the screening of returned troops is an unknown. There are a great many returned troops. The percentage of suicides may be small. Real statistics could be collected but do not appear to be to hand.  A risk profile must be generated and applied.  At risk persons must be monitored for risk level.  Attempts are definitely indicators of high risk. It may be necessary to confine high risk persons.  Such restraint should continue until real relief is found. Suppressed symptoms are not relief.
The world would be a much less exciting place.

“Anger Over Foreclosures Exposes Political Divisions - http://nyti.ms/aPIla6 Banks win, people lose again. Why the Dems lose big in Nov”

The source is the business pages. A very suspect source.
The problem the mortgage industry is suffering from is a failure of due diligence.  Due diligence must be insisted on by the authorities in all cases.  There are some instances where a mortgage loan may never have existed.  The lenders are naturally very reluctant to allow these debts to simply expire leaving the occupants with title to the properties.  The courts and other authorities properly are insisting that due diligence be applied. Thus the freeze on foreclosure while the lenders try to organize their books.  There is no reason here for solid loans in default not to progress to foreclosure.  Unless some acceptable resolution of the questionable loans is found the properties will remain in limbo until they are sold for taxes.  The taxes will remain unpaid because no one has standing to pay them.  By that point their value will be negative.
Probably the courts asked to resolve the conundrum will rule for foreclosure and the servicers will have to put the loss on the books.
An enormous amount of debt will vanish and a great many bankruptcies
    will ensue.
This will not be good news.

Twitter, After Number of Users Surges, Turns to Ads
“After Builiding Audience, Twitter Turns to Ads - http://nyti.ms/9SndVY By NYT's @clairecm @tanzinavega”
Twitter's membership has grown explosively. There are now a great many eyeballs available there and there is the promise of many more.
The advertising department has found this source of potential revenue irresistible and seized control of the company.  If they become too obnoxious the customer base will collapse and the company will be unprofitable.  They must exercise great caution.

Restoring the Lost Art of the Physical Exam
At Stanford, Dr. Abraham Verghese is on a mission to bring back something he considers a lost art: the physical exam.
I am glad to learn of medicine being practised. It seems to be in short supply.  Getting doctors not to treat turns out to be a feat.

Climate Proposal That Looks Beyond Cap and Trade
“Climate Proposal That Looks Beyond Cap and Trade - http://nyti.ms/9cGTqI”
“We didn’t tax typewriters to get the computer. We didn’t tax telegraphs to get telephones,” says Michael Shellenberger, president of the Breakthrough Institute in Oakland, Calif., which is a sponsor of the proposal with A.E.I. and Brookings. “When you look at the history of technological innovation, you find that state investment is everywhere.”
      Oh, but we did.

If government shrinks the   Republicans will suffer a great deal. The rest of us will be near death.  As the economy spirals down to negative value carbon use will collapse. My question is will that be in time to save us from drowning?

Destroying the drug laws would probably benefit everyone but the addicts.  Them it would kill or cure.  Mostly kill.
If it happens I want to be off the roads for the next month.
