    Making Ignorance Chic
In the ’50s, Marilyn made it chic to be smart. Now Sarah makes it chic to be ignorant.
One of the things that the tea party objects to are insults to their intelligence.
    How can they know?

      After Service, Veteran Deaths Surge
“After Service, Veteran Deaths Surge - http://nyti.ms/bmDLkN PLS RT”
Moral Dissonance.  The thought needs to be tested. I do not know how to do it from such a report.
There is no way for such a post service casualty rate to be tolerated.
I would like to know what the crime statistics are doing.  What the veteran involvement rate is.
The level of statistical sophistication demonstrated by this article is sad.  The population and the sample period are not stated.

"I had hoped that we would do better this time. But it turns out that politicians and economists alike have spent decades unlearning the lessons of the 1930s, and are determined to repeat all the old mistakes. And it’s slightly sickening to realize that the big winners in the midterm elections are likely to be the very people who first got us into this mess, then did everything in their power to block action to get us out.
But always remember: this slump can be cured. All it will take is a little bit of intellectual clarity, and a lot of political will. Here’s hoping we find those virtues in the not too distant future."     Paul Krugman

Juan Williams’s NPR Contract Is Ended
“Juan Williams Dumped by NPR for Fox Comments http://nyti.ms/bPcEmx ---- Pretty soon the most liberal commentator on Fox will be Karl Rove!”
It looks like NPR told him to pick a side.  They then decided that he had.
I doubt I shall miss his voice.

When Out to Dinner, Don’t Count the Watts
“What do you think?: When Out to Dinner, Don’t Count the Watts - http://nyti.ms/dBEYim”
I am enough of a techie to see a business opportunity in this.
These places are part of my world.  I babysat Paul Bentel a few times and he is still a neighbour.
The incandescent bulb is a wonderfully flexible light source.  It is also hot.  The feature these people like is the light colour control that can be had by manipulating black body temperature of the filament and perhaps filtering the resulting light.
I can give them the same result with LED efficiency.  I can probably do it with compact fluorescents but it would not be compact.  I will have to fuss to get near the Edison bulb in appearance  It probably is not worth it.  Use the replica bulbs.
The key is that the colour of light is dependant on the frequency distribution. The eye is quite primitive in its receptors and only has two kinds one for red and one for the whole spectrum.  To get colours to render properly one needs three colours of illumination, red, yellow and blue. These exist as LEDs  supply them with independently variable current and the light control is solved.  Thank you very much, my bill will be in the mail.

For the A-Cup Crowd, Minimal Assets Are a Plus
Many women these days want to showcase their small chests, not pad them out. Retailers are listening.
It is best when you send it.  I believe the promise and work to move forward.  I am in the hands of my gods.  Love colours all.

As Keith Richards Remembers It, and He Says He Remembers It All
As his autobiography and account of life as a Rolling Stone is published, Keith Richards (improbably) says he hasn’t forgotten any of it.
Could be true.  One can't forget what one never knew.
Having read this extended paean I am glad I did.  He certainly remembers enough.

These are a fashion accessory.  One can pay what one wishes.
They will not be used for critical listening. Get the cheapest that have acceptable sound quality and noise blocking. If you want great sound blocking try Sony's active cancellation system. keeping them in position while exercising could be an important feature.  Do what pleases you.
I find that acoustic presence is an important feature in urban living. block the ambient sound knowing that you will not be aware of activities out of your sight.

      Almost but not quite.
I was under capitalized and my skills were not yet up to the problems.
I have learned I must go out to work and have something of a social life.  The Chinese Cook well if strangely.  Avoid places where the English language menu is easy to read. Fancy lighting is contra-indicated.

"Social" features have a strong tendency  to be "evil" Making them voluntary helps but does not entirely suppress that tendency.
