It Started With 'No Child Left Behind' - Room for Debate
“It Started With 'No Child Left Behind' - Why Blame Teachers? Room for Debate - http://nyti.ms/hpLZo3”
George W. Bush hated schools and teachers.
      It did not start there.
There is a difference in goals between government and business.
We confuse them at our peril. Business is concerned with wealth.
Government is concerned with the environment.  Public schools are in the government sphere as are most private schools.

Why do the rural people move to the cities?  Suburbs are a clumsy form of city.  The automobile  destroys casual social relationships.
social media are an attempt to restore them.  They exist to flirt.

Brigitte Gabriel Draws Crowds in U.S. With Anti-Islam Message
Brigitte Gabriel, who is from Lebanon, has dire warnings about Muslims in the United States. But some in counterterrorism say she does a disservice to the country.
"Ms. Gabriel’s approach and her power appear rooted in her childhood trauma in the civil war in southern Lebanon.. . . As her father explained to her, “The Muslims bombed us because we are Christians. They want us dead because they hate us.”"
She has found an eager audience.

I don't need the boom and bust cycle.  I would prefer to eat sensibly all year.
I will eat any of these things without the masochistic excuses.
I would rather go out for them because I can't use the deep fryer enough safely.  Good cholesterol has a value.

The record of a year long search on physical oceanography.  There is a lot known and more to know.  The rubber ducks are a great tag for touring it.  The subsurface action is more interesting. I never had the question but existed among the knowledgeable.

Showing Gay Teens a Happy Future
A new online video channel is reaching out to teenagers who are bullied at school for being gay. The message: life really does get better after high school.
Sooner is better.  I told my younger brother that he and my sister should begin to discuss other arrangements for mother's care. He is closest and she is most nearly free(November).

    The New Humanism
Researchers are coming up with a more accurate view of who we are and are beginning to show how the emotional and the rational are intertwined.
David Brooks is still not correctly modelling the world.
To start Rouseau has never been acceptable. Neither has the dominant British world view.  Every successful salesman understands and exploits the human mind.
The rational is not much intertwined with the emotional mind. The emotional mind is capable of processing ideas and observations.  It is also quite adept at failing to perceive things that would discomfit.  I would say that the rational is superposed on the emotional.  When they reinforce, action is easy.  When they disagree, action is much more difficult.
Humanism is a very old tradition.  It has little advantage for those who seek power over others.
I cannot tell you what is right action. I can only ask you to think and to act.
I notice that Brooks's labels are Greek yet he calls it new.

Mog, Streaming Music Service, Takes Aim at TVs and Cars
“New York Times on digital music now aiming for the TV and the car http://nyti.ms/foNaxT”
These are all subscription services.  I object to paying retail for what I can get for a capital investment. I am also too lazy to manage my listening.  Radio stations have digital streams and what lands on my system can be mine.
Digital is a difference in medium.  The music is as it was, ordered sound.  Synthesized sound seems to have little charm for humans as yet.  There is too much in my life to want to play that way.
Music seems to be about performance.  I am happy to have it that way.  How the performance gets to me is of little importance as long as it does not interfere.

The Digital-Music Business Blooms Where It Was Planted, Right Here
“디지털음악 제2의 중흥기? : The Digital-Music Business Blooms Where It Was Planted, Right Here - http://nyti.ms/hOFhaU”
Interesting question.  What are they playing with?
Why is it digital music? Or is that how is it digital music as opposed to analog music as opposed to live music?  Is there any music that was not once live? Is a score music?
