Panel Backs Lower East Side Development Plan
“Big news for the nabe: Panel backs plan for LES #spura - http://nyti.ms/hNpqN1”
It is inevitable that Manhattan will be built on so as to yield the the highest possible return for the structure operators.  Interesting spaces at low rents are not that so they will not be built.  It will take a long deep depression to force the less desirable structures down market.
Build the most luxurious up market space possible. Less desirable spaces will be forced down market. Neighbourhood stability is not the goal, habitability and income are. Only a portion can be above average. When the service people can't get to work, habitability goes down and rents go down.  Jane Jacobs got it right.

Living in a dream world does not make you stupid.  The condition can easily be mistaken for stupidity.
Keynes got it right.  I wish the Republicans understood. As long as they do not, economic instability will persist.  I am wondering what is holding things up again.  I am feeling very skittish.

Does the Chlamydia vaccine improve morality?  I doubt it.
A willingness to get up and exercise will improve your health and attitude. Going out and getting some sun will fix your vitamin D deficiency.  Keeping an active mind will drive neurogenisis.
Richard P. Sloan should nuance his attack.

Does College Make You Smarter? - Room for Debate
Students make little progress in intellectual growth in the first two years of college. Why is that?
I am not ready for a whinnging secession on grade inflation.
I need some definitions. What is smarter?  What is intellectual growth?
Is reasoning  part of them? Do credentials contribute? Does faith have a place? Does doubt? Is "smart" a skill? How much of what is desired is accumulated experience? How much can be learned at second hand?
The Connecticut Yankee built an institution Twain called the man factory.
Is that a college or is it something else?

See the above.  I would like to be able to answer my questions.  There is no employment without some degree.  The military requires high school for enlistment.

    Raising False Alarms
Attacking Social Security is cruel and unnecessary, and it has to stop.
The Republicans do not see it that way.  It is time we noticed.

    Egyptian Police Confront Antigovernment Protesters
Activists, energized by events in Tunisia, said they would mark a national holiday with a “day of revolution.”
One riot does not usually make a revolution. I see no inheritor government.

I don't play.  I will be interested to see the dynamics.  I look at the reports, not the films.
