The Thorny Path to a National Black Museum
“The Thorny Path to a National Black Museum - http://nyti.ms/f48KB2”
Can our nation be made whole after the injuries we have inflicted on our selves?  This museum is a gesture but far from sufficient.

I cook because I must.  I cook well because I eat the product and I want to like it.  Variety helps.

Music Industry Braces for the Unthinkable
“Time to think outside the box - Music Industry Braces for the Unthinkable - http://nyti.ms/dGlcnf”
Dire Straits MTV add is a payment model. Video is not music.
Most of us don't make our own music. Digital files are noise immune.
Performance will persist. Time shifted performance will persist.
Streaming destroys copyright monopoly. It is inevitable. It does not destroy all market value. The profit margin will be modest.  Everything heard is not recorded. (There is a device there.)  Things heard are samples of a performer's work.  The recording industry is just fine. The business model is different and perhaps not as profitable. Go to web publication with a pay wall. The paying life of a performance will be limited by file sharing.

Someone is observing and acting on their observations. The results  are superior.  There is not a great deal I can do beyond providing comfort.

Showing Gay Teens a Happy Future
A new online video channel is reaching out to teenagers who are bullied at school for being gay. The message: life really does get better after high school.
It has been a long time since high school.  Sooner is better.

Tim Cook Is Running Apple, but Not Imitating Steve Jobs
When Timothy D. Cook is on his own, he will have to compensate for the absence of Steven P. Jobs.
At Apple product drives operations. In the past when Jobs was absent, the company wandered. If it wanders again, it won't last long.

    The Competition Myth
It’s a misdiagnosis to say that America’s economic problem is a lack of competitiveness.
My thought is that efforts are misdirected.
I think the pledge of allegiance as it was before 1954:
"One nation with liberty and justice for all."
    has it about right.
