F.B.I. Giving Agents New Powers in Revised Manual
The F.B.I. plans to issue a new edition of its manual giving agents more leeway to search databases, go through household trash or use surveillance teams to scrutinize people.

Why Women Don't Get Caught Up in Sex Scandals
Why don’t female politicians get caught cheating? The whole approach to seeking and wielding power is different.
They are fewer, under more intense scrutiny And trained to reputation from childhood.  Our electronic village is full of gossips.

    Saudi Arabia’s Freedom Riders
If Muslim women could ride on camels 14 centuries ago, why shouldn’t they drive cars today?
Because the system is brittle.   Any change will shatter it.

With 1.2 Billion People, India Still Seeks One Good Hangman
A possible execution is in the offing, but the nation’s handful of known hangmen have either died, retired or disappeared.
The Indian legal system is duly famous.  We should not join them.
I have often said we do not need a death penalty.  We need an editorial policy.  The dead do not suffer at our hands.

Obama Reaches Out to Wall Street Donors
President Obama has started an aggressive push to win back the allegiance of a vital source of campaign cash in 2008.
He can talk nicely to them and lobby them all he wants.
    Grant them no more power.

Who's Ready for Kindergarten? - Room for Debate
Should the U.S. rethink what the first year of school should provide?
Yes. And preschool and child care.   Build knowledge.  always tell the child a bit more than the answer asked for.  The child will change the subject when it has heard enough.

Tiny Newcomb, N.Y., Recruits Students Worldwide
Enrollment in Newcomb, N.Y., had hit bottom when Superintendent Clark Hults advertised an American education to students around the world.
I like Newcomb but I usually go around the corner to Long Lake.  I am not brave or foolish enough to drop down the Hudson river gorge.
The walk up to Newcomb lake is well worth taking. The drive up to Henderson lake is not demanding and Henderson is wonderful.

    Germany Recognizes Libyan Rebel Government
Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle called the opposition National Transitional Council, “the legitimate representation of the Libyan people.”
Germany remembers the end of the second world war.
It is far better to burn other peoples oil while you can.  The north sea flow is slowing.  The government has promised to give up nuclear power.
I believe that France led the initial effort to change Libya.
