France Is Scolded Over Care of Great Hamster of Alsace
The European Union’s highest court ruled that France had failed to protect the Great Hamster of Alsace, the last wild hamster species in Western Europe.  A cute survivor of the black death.

Employers Spend on Equipment Rather Than Hiring
As the economy recovers, companies’ capital spending is growing faster than their spending on employees, encouraged by tax breaks and falling prices for equipment.
This is not recovery.  More stuff and no more money to chase it means falling prices.

Defense Secretary Warns NATO of ‘Dim’ Future
Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates bluntly criticized NATO nations on Friday, warning of “a dim if not dismal future” for an alliance at risk of becoming irrelevant.
The Alliance was formed to oppose the Soviet Union.  It has no purpose at this time.

Hashtags, a New Way for Tweets: Cultural Studies
Hashtags — a word or phrase preceded by the “#” symbol — have been popularized on Twitter as a way for users to organize and search tweets.
Why would you want to do that?

    Politicians Behaving Well
Taking a second look at the qualities that define honorable people.
This is a list of fiction.  The history of the politics of the period can easily be found. 1914 - 1918 and what followed is part of that history.

    The Earth Is Full
We are in denial about the severity of the climate crisis and just how big of a response is going to be needed.
I have been scouting these problems for forty years.
I have found no good solution.
People will die.  I will not volunteer to be among them.

He’s been called both a survivor of Britain’s imperial age and a national embarrassment, but Queen Elizabeth’s consort shows no sign on cutting back on his wildly offensive witticisms.

Egypt’s Economy Slows to a Crawl; Revolt Is Tested

U.S. Warns Styrene and Formaldehyde May Cause Cancer
Styrene and seven other substances were added to a list of possible human carcinogens, and the warning on formaldehyde was strengthened.

"It will unfairly scare workers, plant neighbors and could have a chilling effect on the development of new products,” said Tom Dobbins of the American Composites Manufacturers Association. “And our companies are primarily small businesses, and this could hurt jobs and local economies.”"
Some people just don't know when to stop lying.  It will doubtless hurt.
We will have to find other ways to do.  They will cost more.  Styrene and glass fibre belong on the list.
