Fox News and the Republican Field
“Clever, but can you find the flaw? http://nyti.ms/ktbHfQ”
      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Populism
"The potential presidential candidates who have spent the last few years doubling as Fox pundits are all either self-conscious populists (Huckabee, Palin, etc.) or else Washington insiders pretending to be populists (Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum)."
      and
" Mitt Romney (and Tim Pawlenty and even Jon Huntsman), by taking figures who might have been potent political leaders for the G.O.P.’s populist wing, and thus potent contenders for the nomination, and giving them every incentive to choose celebrity instead. By packaging conservative populism as entertainment, Fox has made the populist style much more influential in Republican politics, and forced the Romneys of the world to hit notes and strike poses that probably play better on “Hannity” than with swing voters.

The parents of this years grads are about fifty.  They graduated into the market of 1970.  They have trained their children to compete as they competed.  That competition is not there.  The new grads will have to find their own way because the world their parents found is gone.
It is best if they love what they find to do because there will be little time to do other things.

Vicki Abeles, the film maker, doesn't really get it either.  There a great many things that must be learned on the way to being an adult rather than a dolt or a specialist.  Most of them are not on the exam.  When and how they are to be learned is open for discussion.
We can't get it into sixteen years of formal instruction under the present structuring.

"And the answer to the question of whether we can do better seems mostly to be, sure, but at a price no one wants to pay. "
The cheap way is a gasoline generator that sits next to the lawn mower gas until needed.  The dependable way is a propane fuelled generator that sits with its own bottle.  The reasonable way is a charger deep cycle battery and an inverter that provide emergency power to the gadgets and a reading light.  How long will the power be out?

We have a real dearth of nude beaches.  One piece or two or none.
I don't care.  A boat off shore is the best way I know to seek privacy.
I can find some warm water with sun and sand or smooth rocks.  Where depends on the calendar.

It is past time to put people to work.  That will not happen.
The Republicans think the Democrats can be rolled.  They may be right.

    The Mistake of 2010
A look at some recent dismal economic data shows the results of a pivot away from jobs to other concerns.

    Screaming headlines.
