U.S. Underwrites Internet Detour Around Censors Abroad
The Obama administration is leading a global effort to deploy “shadow” Internet and mobile phone systems that dissidents can use to undermine repressive governments.
Good luck to them.  I would love to use bit torrent.

Why Women Don't Get Caught Up in Sex Scandals
Why don’t women politicians get caught cheating? The whole approach to seeking and wielding power is different.
Show me a peer reviewed study.

Hashtags, a New Way for Tweets: Cultural Studies
Hashtags — a word or phrase preceded by the “#” symbol — have been popularized on Twitter as a way for users to organize and search tweets. Just a fashion statement.

    When Food Kills
As we keep feeding our livestock antibiotics, we are creating a breeding ground for bacteria that can lead to untreatable ailments.

    Don’t Quit This Day Job
For female doctors, the decision to go part time isn’t just personal; it has consequences for patients and the public.
Most of the content of this whine can and will change.
If a doctor wants regular hours there is pathology.
    The dead are very patient.

For the Executive With Everything, a $230,000 Dog to Protect It
A growing number of wealthy people around the world are coveting the security — and status — provided by a dog with the right credentials.
Dog as fashion accessory does not appeal at all.  A dog needs its people.

    Preserving College Radio
College radio is a critical part of its community, on-campus and off.
Narrow casting on the net is nearly as effective.
    Local radio is fascinating.

In Facebook Photos, a Smiling Gabrielle Giffords
Since the shooting, the only time the public was able to glimpse at Ms. Giffords was April 27 as she boarded a plane to Florida to watch her husband go into space.
I am glad to see her back.

    The Uncertainty Tax
A few big, smart, bipartisan decisions by Congress on taxes and spending (and mortgages) could get the economy to start improving again.
We need money at the bottom.  That is not going to happen.  There will be no debt relief. Nothing bipartisan will happen.  Taxes must go up.

    Newt Loves Callista
The good husband: A man who once called himself “the defender of civilization” is now just the defender of vacation.
    Neut was always a joke.

The Economy and D.C.: Republicans’ Tax-cutting Fantasia
High unemployment may be good for Republicans in the next election, which makes it disturbing that Republican leaders have blocked discussion of any job-creation proposals.
This blurb is a classic non-sequitur.
If unemployment is good, push it.

    Paperless Business Cards: Noticed
Once ubiquitous, they are being transformed and even eliminated by QR codes and apps like the Hashable for iPhone that lets users exchange electronic “cards.”
One less thing to try to keep track of.

Byron Lewis of UniWorld, on Uncommon Sense
Byron Lewis Sr. of the UniWorld Group, the ad agency, says people with uncommon sense have a vision and act upon it.
I think I get the vision thing.  I am not so good at having one for the immediate project.

Why Encrypted Passwords Make a Difference - Digital Domain
What are some keys to building a strong password? Be sure that it’s encrypted, lengthy, and not a word in any language.

Fred Rosen, Who Built Ticketmaster, Now Tries to Unseat It
Fred Rosen, the man who made Ticketmaster ubiquitous, wants to put ticketing back in the hands of venues.
I will buy you the CD or the DVD.  I do not love crowds.  Rosen may win but I will not.

Education Secretary May Agree to Waivers on ‘No Child’ Law Requirements
Facing a clamor from state school officials to waive substantial parts of No Child Left Behind, Arne Duncan may use his executive authority to free states from the law’s centerpiece requirement.
All the students cannot be above average.
What are needed are content standards.
The Regents exams have been that.

Pakistani Journalists, Dying to Tell the Story
I was tortured. My colleague was killed. Pakistan’s government must act to punish intelligence officials who target journalists.

Why are justice and liberty incumbent on that government?

A journalist's first duty is to survive.  Write the stories that are required to do that.  Find ways to work against the regime that are effective and do not endanger future work.  Live for your ideals.  Let others die for other ideals.
