Lytro’s Camera Lets You Shoot First and Focus Later
The company’s technology allows a picture’s focus to be adjusted after it is taken.
They must be getting the range information.  How to do that is beyond me at this scale.  Mostly photographers use a very small aperture and don't bother to focus.  The depth of field information is not recorded and it is hard to stop motion.  The trick works better with digital photography because of the high sensitivity.
A fascinating trick but probably not a winner.
They will stagger on for years.

Upending Anonymity, These Days the Web Unmasks Everyone
Pervasive social media services, cheap cellphone cameras, free photo and video Web hosts have made privacy all but a thing of the past.
The"Kissing Couple" pulled of a really neat trick. Notice that the riot control forces are ignoring them.
Privacy and anonymity can be had with pre-planing.  The drive to boast is very destructive.  Attaching a self portrait has become almost as good as a name.

F.B.I. Seizes Web Servers, Knocking Sites Offline
6:16 p.m. | Updated Adding that the F.B.I. did not comment.
Expect a congressional hearing.  The F.B.I. must account for this action.

The Sun Is the Best Optometrist
Too much time indoors can damage the eye’s development.
This still sounds like junk.  I want to read the peer reviewed papers published on the subject.

This is easy stuff. The big trick is the stone and the flour. Good tomatoes are important.

Government Chooses Nine Graphic Images for Cigarette Packs
Nine images — one of a corpse and another of a man with a tracheotomy opening in his neck — are to appear on cigarette packages next year.
    Maybe it will work.
We must keep trying until something works.  There are other less addictive things we need to work on like meth and Heroine.

Mysteries of a Nazi Photo Album
The archives are almost certainly extant. Many are probably in Russia. I am not sufficiently interested to become the needed expert in German records of military and political service.

Artnet Has Online Art Sales Success
Early attempts to sell art online met with failure, but lately a company named Artnet has been finding success with online art auctions.
    This might prove useful.  bookmarked.

H & H Bagels to Close Upper West Side Store
H & H Bagels, the Upper West Side’s most celebrated destination for what is quite possibly the Upper West Side’s most iconic food, is closing its Upper West Side store, employees said Tuesday.
Bagels are not hard to do.  Pretzels are not hard to do.  Pizza is not hard to do.  All require getting the few details right.  I can do that.

Critical Confidence Vote Looms in Greece
A vote concerns the new cabinet formed last week by the Greek prime minister to push through a package of austerity measures, a prerequisite for continued euro zone financing.
    The government survived.

Greek Parliament Passes Critical Confidence Vote

We will see an even deeper disaster soon.

Deal on Rent Laws and Property Tax Cap in Albany
An agreement was reached on renewing rent laws, capping property taxes for homeowners and raising tuition at state universities.
This looks really nuts.  This is only one side of the deal.  Pass the other side.

    Wal-Mart’s Authoritarian Culture
The company’s corporate culture hurts millions of employees, both male and female.
"There used to be a remedy for this sort of managerial authoritarianism: it was called a union, which bargained over not only wages and pensions but also the kind of qualitative issues, including promotion and transfer policies, that have proved so vexing for non-unionized employees at Wal-Mart and other big retailers."   Union!

    100 Days
The first 100 days of every presidency are regularly used as a measuring stick for success. Unfortunately, it seems as if that’s the only time anything gets done.
Straw men.  No third party I can conceive of can win.  We have a very good idea of how to start an economy.  Unfortunately there are very well established powers that are opposed to restarting the economy.  Those powers will have to be destroyed.  I would far rather they self destruct than that they be destroyed by external forces.

Indian Company Under Scrutiny Over U.S. Visas
A whistle-blower has accused the outsourcing company he works for of ploys to bring workers to the United States.
If the work can be outsourced, why bring the workers here?
If the work requires that it be done here isn't it worth the prevailing wage?
This looks like deflation to me.
