2 Top Lawyers Lost to Obama in Libya War Policy Debate
President Obama rejected the views of the lawyers when he decided he had the authority to continue U.S. participation in Libya without Congressional authorization.
The Republicans want a fight.  It works better for them than legislation.

Hospitals Performed Needless Double CT Scans, Records Show
Hundreds of hospitals across the country needlessly exposed patients to radiation by scanning their chests twice on the same day, records indicate.
I agree that the practice should be rare.
There are so many reasons it might occur.  Money for the doc is one of them.

Women in Saudi Arabia Drive in Protest of Law
Several dozen women drove in major cities of Saudi Arabia on Friday as part of a protest against a longstanding ban.
If the driving continues it is a battle won. This is just a start.

In Japan, Another Nuclear Reactor Tests Nation’s Will
Engineers have been struggling to repair a reactor that has been in a precarious state of shutdown since a 3.3-ton device crashed into its inner vessel last August.
Not a release yet.  Really not a story yet.

    Internet Start-Ups Find New Metrics to Look Profitable;
Over a decade ago, Internet companies promoted new ways to measure their business performance, introducing concepts like “eyeballs” and “mindshare” to investors.
    Liars figuring.
If a company interests you, do your home work. Read the SEC fillings.  Read the press releases.  Think about their business model.

David Protess of the Innocence Project Now Defends Himself
David Protess made a name for himself as the Innocence Project he led exonerated a dozen wrongly convicted defendants. Then he locked horns with a prosecutor.
Persecutor rather than a prosecutor.  She went hunting for him and got him.  His crime is beating the state in public.

Cuomo Expects Approval of Same-Sex Marriage Bill
Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo said Friday that he expected a same-sex marriage bill to be approved soon by the New York State Legislature.
“This has nothing to do with my beliefs as a Catholic. This is marriage in a civil context — marriage as defined by government, not by a religion.”
    Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo
    It should pass.

Phil Campbells Congregate in the Town of Phil Campbell
What started as a joke, a centennial celebration for Phil Campbell, Ala., turned into a relief effort in the aftermath of a tornado that killed 26 people in the little town.
    Just a little story.

Call Off the Global Drug War
To make drug policies more humane and more effective, the U.S. should rehabilitate non-violent, casual drug users, and undermine the power of organized crime.
Withdrawal will be the problem.  If we stop the war there will be an overwhelming pulse as the supply chain tries for one more pay day.
A possible fix is to flood the market before lifting the sanctions.

Mayors See End to Wars as Fix for Struggling Cities
Many cities are losing state and federal aid just as the burst housing bubble is belatedly driving down property taxes.
The money they are looking at is off budget appropriations.
If they do not go to the military they do not exist.
There will be no revenue bump from the end of these deployments.

Book Review - The Secret Knowledge - By David Mamet
David Mamet comes out swinging against liberalism, offering his views on religion and American culture.
"That, I suspect, was a straw antagonist — with no chance at all of being, “arguably, in the right” — and this is a straw book, which looks for tragedy in all the wrong places."
    Christopher Hitchens knocks it down.

Arizona’s Jobless Lose Checks for Want of a Word
Because of ideological opposition and other priorities, Arizona and some other states have not made the change needed to keep federally financed unemployment checks going.
The South lost the civil war.  Refighting it is not productive.

Deploying New Tools to Stop the Hackers
Security expects say that new hacking threats from smartphone and Web links require a new generation of tools.
I run Linux for most things most of the time.  I have not bothered with Flash.  I do have Microsoft systems.  I run AVG Free on them and do not use them for general explorations.  I have not had security problems recently.  Mostly I get into trouble with hot keys.

Fake Identities Were Used on Twitter to Get Information on Weiner
There is evidence that two false identities were created on Twitter — that of a 16-year-old girl and her classmate — to collect information to use against Anthony D. Weiner.

    The Banking Miracle
The Glass-Steagall Act, signed into law in 1933, was amazingly radical, not just for its time, but for any time.

The case of Stephen J. Kim, an arms expert, is next in line in the Obama administration’s unprecedented crackdown against leaks to the media.

I think the prosecutors and the law are on trial here.

Biggest Banks in Reverse Mortgages Exit Business
Wells Fargo and Bank of America have left the business of reverse mortgages, a type of home equity loan, as falling home prices have made it more unpredictable.
This is just mechanical.  Prices have continued to sink. The profit in a reverse mortgage has vanished.  The banks are not in the business of incurring costs.
