Peace Corps Volunteers Speak Out on Rape
Former volunteers are going public about being sexually assaulted while serving, prompting a Congressional hearing on Wednesday.
The hearing won't help much.  A house cleaning would be a start.  Set the ones who stay to finding safer places.

The "blame the victim" attitude is world wide.  I am not at all surprised that it permeates the support staff.  For the US to charge in as avenging angels is equally intolerable.   Arming the volunteers would destroy the image and run counter to the charter of the agency.
The only measure I can think of is a much more knowledgeable assignment group, both of the volunteers and the situations to which the volunteers are sent.  More and better teaching for the volunteers would not be amiss.
No matter what measures are taken before the fact some of the volunteers will be victimized.  There should be effective rehabilitation for them.
Rehabilitation is a black art to me.  I think it starts with listening carefully.  Very early the possible physical rehabilitation must be done. Perhaps it continues with explaining the broader situation. Pointing to opportunities to work toward change of the victimizing culture are not out of order.  Enabling the victim is part of the process.

From the Cloud, Google Pulls Down an Energy Saver

I want to ask what they are optimizing?  If the trip power demands are that near the limit of a system it would be far better to choose a different system.  Regenerative braking is a you have it or you don't have it. Range is speed and acceleration dependent. The range of variation is perhaps ten percent.  If the optimum trip profile uses 90%
of the maximum charge,  you had better choose another vehicle for that trip.  You will be stuck on the road.  The kid has run to the store or the plug was knocked out early or there was a power failure or the battery is in less than good shape or the day was hot or the pavement was wet or a tire was soft.  The driver will be stuck through no fault of hers.    That is a five mile difference in a fifty mile trip.   It is easy to spend that looking for a parking spot.

I am regularly surprised by the lack of sophistication in the kitchen.
Engineers don't cook.  When they do we get salty corn snacks.
I could make this.  Better and or cheaper is a question.

      Why Twitter Will Endure
So you’re drowning in a sea of information. Perhaps the answer is more information.
For the most part I am not riding the wave of fashion.  Current events are not what I am  following.  I do look at the economy but a week should not make that much difference. Flash events are not my interest.  It makes no difference if I get out of the market two weeks or a week ahead of the the collapse.

I see these schemes from time to time.  This is another scheme to capture the world by making spending easy.  Debt slavery is far too easy as it stands.  I have a copy of the family credit card to buy the groceries and fuel my car.  I will keep it as a safety fall back.  Cash is the way for me to go.
