    The Unwisdom of Elites
The anatomy of a top-down disaster.
"So it was the bad judgment of the elite, not the greediness of the common man, that caused America’s deficit. And much the same is true of the European crisis."  P.K., and I agree.
"We need to place the blame where it belongs, to chasten our policy elites. Otherwise, they’ll do even more damage in the years ahead." P.K.  amen.

Why We Celebrate Killing Bin Laden
“Why We Celebrate Killing Bin Laden - http://nyti.ms/m3K0gH”
Even in death he doubly serves his cause.  Many think the conflict is at an end. It is not. O B L will serve as an example, martyred for his cause. He also serves as a source of legitimacy for his cause and his descendants.   This is not a joyful development but it did feel good for a minute.

      They should keep the anonymity.
      Alcohol is addictive.
      Alcohol and responsibility are incompatible.
Adults are responsible. All drunks are considered adults.
Anonymity breaks the coupling to responsibility.
An adult can admit to alcohol addiction and return to a responsible position in public life.  It is not shame that is the problem.
It is loss of adult status due to the inability to perform.

The Times in Overdrive - Arthur S. Brisbane - The Public Editor - The New York Times
The public editor complements his print column with a series of graphics showing The Times's late-night transformation in print and digital the night of President Obama's announcement of the killing of Osama bin Laden.
The fire horses answered the bell.
There is still a profession of journalism.
I am not so sure about thoughtful journalism but that always was rare.

Is a Human "Here and Now" Bias Clouding Climate Reasoning?
Here’s a “Your Dot” contribution from Jacob Tanenbaum, a computer technology teacher from Tappan, N.Y., who sent the following thoughts after reading “On Birth Certificates, Climate Risk and an Inconvenient Mind“:

      The short answer is Yes.
I will quibble that the problem is learned rather than biological.
We can and must do better.

      The city is always changing.
Value and activity do not follow structure.  Comfort does to some extent.  Some of it chases low rent, some high. Repute and rent are cyclical.  Politicians are unwilling to wait for cyclical processes and try to force or halt them.  The results are rarely good.

In Iran, Mehrdad Oskouei’s Film’s Explore Risky Topics
““Should I make a film that means I get thrown out of this society?” - http://nyti.ms/jZegMz”
The question should never arise.  As it does, my easy answer is yes.
Another question is will you publish such a film?
Can you stand and afford to make a film that will stand only in your archive?  Can you live in another place?  How do you feel about self destruction?  Can the society change to permit the film? What would that require? If it so changed would the film be necessary?
