      Airspeed inconsistency.
Iced pitot tubes. It was in the Times shortly after the accident.
Nice pictures of a research vessel at work.  The navy pays for much of oceanography.  Loose talk is discouraged.  There are few real secrets.
You do have to read the literature.  Geology is much the same way.

    Mothers We Could Save
A Mother’s Day thought: One of the easiest ways to save women’s lives worldwide would be to support family planning programs. Instead, they’re being cut.
    YES.

A test result was late.  Not in question.
Samples are taken by nurses at the doctors orders.
Tests are done in the lab by professionals working under pressure.
If it were a failure in the lab, the result would have been unavailable.
it was not. It was late by minutes.
This looks like a failure to get the sample to the lab promptly.
      Very much the nurse's responsibility.

Bin Laden’s Secret Life in a Shrunken World, Domestic but Dark
Little is known about Bin Laden’s last years, but what has emerged so far is a portrait of an isolated man, perhaps a little bored, presiding over family life while plotting mayhem.
People are not prosecuted for their thoughts in this country.
They become guilty under our laws by their actions.  Conspiracy to kill is the best that could have been done.  We will have to read the files.  Most of what I see are records of dreams.  Stanley Kubrick is guilty of nuclear war by the model  used on Osama Bin-Laden.

Just like he "invented" the Internet. Pogue wrote this not Al.
I am thinking a good deal less of Pogue.

I doubt that we will get much cooperation from Pakistan.

Killing Evil Doesn’t Make Us Evil
It wasn’t bad for college kids to feel good about their country.
    Maureen Dowd is fighting Irish.
Assassination  is not moral, just or conducive to memory.
It does feel good and may count as revenge.
    I am awaiting events.

Despite Government Efforts, Tainted Food Widespread in China
A stomach-turning string of food-safety scandals this spring, from recycled buns to contaminated pork, makes it clear that official efforts are falling short.
    See The Jungle, Upton Sinclair
This is evidence of industrial cities divorced from the countryside.

The ‘Facebook Class’ Built Apps, and Fortunes
In 2007, the “Facebook Class” at Stanford created free apps for millions of users. But it also fired up the careers of many students and pioneered a new model of entrepreneurship.
Same old model, a new space.

I never encountered his material as a child.
The more I learn of it the more influential it appears to have been.
Have the last fifty years of television been the attempt to get his name off bits?

They know where the bodies are buried. Taking a job at the NRC is a first step to witness protection.  That must be made very clear.  Returning to the industry from government must be a criminal offence.  A really great retirement plan for regulators will help.

    The White House’s Bedtime Bombshell
Presses were rolling, but The Times was just gearing up.

Very "inside baseball": The Times goes to a "Fire".
Interesting that the paper goes to bed at 19:00 local on the west coast.
    Deadline at 17:30 pst?
