How to value "free" cash now against wilderness forever lost.
The wilderness I will enjoy and others will enjoy after me.
The cash will go to others.
I will never see anything but ruins of the hole it came out of.
Stone desert roads do not heal.
Even the fast growing forest of the North-east
is very different when it has been cut.
Two or three hundred years is not ten thousand.
Indian burning is different from clear cut and ploughed.

      Is Sugar Toxic?
“Is Sugar Toxic? - http://nyti.ms/fnOnfc Interesting read on that ingredient so many of us consume daily. ”
"surely you’ve spoken to Robert Lustig,” not because Lustig has done any of the key research on sugar himself, which he hasn’t, but because he’s willing to insist publicly and unambiguously, when most researchers are not, that sugar is a toxic substance that people abuse. In Lustig’s view, sugar should be thought of, like cigarettes and alcohol, as something that’s killing us."
"Joslin could not know at the time that the fructose content of sugar affects how we metabolize it.
"If you want to cause insulin resistance in laboratory rats, says Gerald Reaven, the Stanford University diabetologist who did much of the pioneering work on the subject, feeding them diets that are mostly fructose is an easy way to do it. It’s a “very obvious, very dramatic” effect, Reaven says."
"Feed animals enough pure fructose or enough sugar, and their livers convert the fructose into fat.""The fat accumulates in the liver, and insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome follow."
"Similar effects can be shown in humans, although the researchers doing this work typically did the studies with only fructose."
"If it’s sugar that causes insulin resistance, they say, then the conclusion is hard to avoid that sugar causes cancer — some cancers, at least."

Sugar is toxic.  There may be a level we can tolerate.  I don't know what it is.  Sugar and concentrated fructose can easily be avoided.
I will try to do that.  I am not going to get religeous about it but I will add minimal sugar and seek glucose to substitute in where I can.

      A Doctor at the Funeral
Death is a given in medicine. That truism, though, doesn’t offer much comfort when it’s your patient who has died. I was in clinic the other day, showing the ropes to a fresh-faced medical student, when a nurse leaned toward me and whispered that ...
There is nothing I want to add.
