  • Jon Stewart’s Advocacy Role in 9/11 Bill Passage
Jon Stewart’s role in pushing for a bill to provide health care for 9/11 responders has drawn comparisons to Edward R. Murrow.
This time it worked.  This is an example of the careful use of political capital.

In Kenya, Huts Far Off the Grid Harness the Sun
“In Kenya, Huts Far Off the Grid Harness the Sun - http://nyti.ms/ijhlcZ”
The article keeps calling for government action. Rural stand alone
power is not the business of a utility.  It calls for the most basic of merchant enterprise.  Montgumery Ward or Sears or F. W. Woolworth.
There are people eager to buy. Go and sell.

    The Big (Military) Taboo
When the U.S. spends almost as much on arms as every other country in the world combined, we’re overinvesting in our military.
You will get no argument from me.  The republican party will spend no other money. Military spending is the only stimulus available.

Hollywood Moves Away From Middlebrow Movies
“Great article about the movie industry being affected by social media! http://nyti.ms/fhFJAY”
The studios still don't get it. A great movie is a great story. The rest is eye candy.  Start with a storyteller Let the director present the story powerfully.  A movie is first a story.

    Bundle Up, It’s Global Warming
Why is it so cold and snowy in Europe and the Eastern United States? Global warming is affecting the snow cover in Siberia.
I have no reason to doubt this. I Think this is a normal circulation pattern with less heat in the system in winter. The higher equatorial temperatures
lead to more vigorous storms. In summer equatorial heat circulates into the Arctic and more than makes up for winter losses. We will see weather this story is confirmed.

    Who Killed the Disneyland Dream?
For all the inequities of America in 1956, economic equality seemed within reach, at least for the vast middle class.
The story does not quite have the nerve to blame anti new deal forces on the right.

    Cut Here. Invest There.
In the 21st century, America cannot afford the politics of irresponsible profligacy or mindless austerity. Atlanta’s mayor, Kasim Reed, is one example of the new breed of leader.
Kasim Reed has the nerve to collect the necessary taxes. He is not so brave as to prove the right liars by failing to implement their window dressing. Bipartisanship has nothing to do with this success.

Holiday Travel in Disarray as Blizzard Heads Up East Coast
As a blizzard barreled up the East Coast on Sunday, promising to dump more than a foot of snow in the New York area, the city’s airports had canceled more than 1,000 flights by noon.
The storm dried out about 3:00 AM. The roads are clear here.

      “Requiem for a Dream - http://nyti.ms/grYYp4”

All very true. Their pay checks say that the illegals pay taxes. They will not collect benefits.  Thusthe make liars of the anti-immigration party three ways. The employer pockets the taxes, the immigrant supports the the benefit program so it does not go broke and the cost to the community is negative. The rentals where they live pay school taxes.

      Who Killed the Disneyland Dream?
“Who Killed the Disneyland Dream? - http://nyti.ms/dHa86e”
That dream died when the baby boom went to work, along about 1968. It was born of the wave of new college graduates who went to work about 1950 and found themselves making a middle class income with a young family and a new television set. It died when the children of the boom tried to follow their parents golden path and found it a blind ally.
