    The Tea Maker
This would have been the 70th birthday year for John Lennon if only he was here. The most important gift we received from him was not words, but deeds.  The music that survives him is his legacy to us.

Year After Storm, Central Park Sees Its Original Vision - City Room Blog
“More trees in Central Park! - City Room Blog - http://nyti.ms/dkYYgL”
Let Central park be the designed experience it was intended to be.
There are forests in reach if they are what is called for.  Forests and heavy human use just do not mix. I like parks and I like forest. It was a thrill to realize that the Adirondack Park was a wilderness park, intentionally minimally developed. If more civilization were permitted it would loose a great deal of its magic.  Let us go gently on the land so that when we move on the land remains.  This is not done in Haiti or Brazil.  What will we do with all that arsenic?

I am glad they laughed.  I have not been doing enough of that.
I find I do not run music these days.  It distracts me.  I end up listening to it.

In PISA Test, Top Scores From Shanghai Stun Experts
Shanghai students outscored counterparts in dozens of other countries in China’s debut in global standardized testing.
It would be good if there was standardized sampling.
Teaching to the test really works for test results.  Not so good for living.

Tracing the Spark of Creative Problem-Solving
“"creative problem-solving usually requires both analysis and sudden out-of-the-box insight." http://nyti.ms/hXWLj7”
It works better for me if the analysis comes before the problem is assigned.

Elizabeth Edwards Dies of Cancer at 61
Mrs. Edwards, a savvy adviser and the wife of ex-Senator John Edwards, shared his quest for the White House as she struggled with cancer, and, secretly, his infidelity.
No one should have to go through that. It does not lead me to favour John.

Searching the Brain for the Spark of Creative Problem-Solving
Research suggests that the idea of doing a puzzle shifts the brain into an open, playful state that is itself a pleasing escape.
The creative part is a joy.  The support work is work but worth it for the rewards.

Talk on the Left of a Primary Challenge to Obama - Matt Bai
That a primary is being openly discussed reflects how fully Mr. Obama’s relationship with his party’s liberal activists has ruptured.
Muttered about is what is going on.

    Still Digging
While Washington is arguing over who won the tax-cut war, the United States is getting out-hustled and out-educated.
Thomas Friedman is still scolding.  He wants the wrong things done.

Deal on Tax Cuts Will Aid Most, Especially Highest Earners
The only groups likely to face a tax increase are the poorest.
I really hope the whole damn thing gets cancelled.  Let the tax breaks expire.  Do fix the AMT.  A reminder: the median is not the mean. 250K is a very high income for a salaried person and out of reach for a union member.

Michelle Rhee, Ex-Schools Chief in Washington, Re-emerges
Michelle Rhee, former chancellor of the Washington, D.C., schools, will lead a new advocacy group, and hopes to raise $1 billion to promote “transformative reform.”
Republican control of the public schools is not a good idea.
If the want to get rid of teachers with contracts, buy them out.
If They want to cut expenses because they want to cut taxes, tell them no.  Let the schools educate rather than train.

Madam Ree must have other references. I was Late off the line this morning and paused for a nap. I will send this now as other eyes may not see it.

At this time I will not pay the bills for Apple products for me.
It is not so much the money as the addictive nature of the product.
Learning Adobe on the apple practically ruined me for other operating systems.  I still try to use a one button mouse.
