You’ve Got to Have (150) Friends
“I am always doubtful of mass media coverage about the media that took their lunch. You’ve Got to Have (150) Friends http://nyti.ms/hqtwPC”
I find myself with many fewer than 150. There are those with larger circles.  Most of mine seem to be intermittent.  I am glad to hear their news when they show up.  I am not about to chase them down.  You are a different matter.

I am unfamiliar with all of these. I am also incurious.  If one or more of them landed in front of me I would try a few pages.

It does not read like we are winning. We may be loosing more slowly. There is no spine to this effort.

    The Big (Military) Taboo
When the U.S. spends almost as much on arms as every other country in the world combined, we’re overinvesting in our military.
The military spending of the second world war ended the great depression.
the spending now is some of the only domestic stimulus.

The last point is a question in my mind.  This report deserves more than simple reporting.  I want to know the why of these numbers.

Obama to Enact End-of-Life Planning for Medicare
Advance care planning, which touched off a political storm over “death panels,” will be covered under Medicare — a “quiet victory” for supporters.
This looks like a good thing to me.

    Who Killed the Disneyland Dream?
For all the inequities of America in 1956, economic equality seemed within reach, at least for the vast middle class.  Clumsily done but the point of the column stands.  There is no way up by simply working hard.  There is no way up without hard work.  Necessary but not sufficient.
The dream has not died but the ladder has. This is not an accident.

    Bundle Up, It’s Global Warming
Why is it so cold and snowy in Europe and the Eastern United States? Global warming is affecting the snow cover in Siberia.
It makes sense to me.  The explanation of the fluid dynamics needs work.
If central asia is getting more snow, why is it in drought?

The accident happened long before the events recorded here.
The commitment to disaster was at the decision to ignore the safety concerns of the crew.

Income Inequality and the 'Superstar Effect'
The “superstar effect” drives up pay for athletes, entertainers and Wall Street executives, concentrating wealth with only a few Americans and limiting others’ chances of moving up.
At this hour I am not going to try to solve the problem. I will point out that some of the best and brightest have other goals than high income.

    Banks and WikiLeaks
A bank’s ability to block payments to a legal entity, as Bank of America has done with WikiLeaks, raises troubling questions.
One of them is who gets to question their decisions?
How are contributions to any organization a danger to their proper functioning?  They get their fees from all transactions.
