Qaddafi YouTube Spoof by Israeli Gets Arab Fans
A clip mocking Col. Muammar el-Qaddafi’s megalomania is fast becoming a popular token of the Libyan uprising.
    And youtube took it down.

Regulation Lax as Gas Wells’ Tainted Water Hits Rivers
A method to extract more natural gas often produces wastewater laced with toxic substances.
It does produce toxic waste water.  Stop pulling the punches.

Dry is good too.  My plan was to get up one of the lesser canyons and play among the rocks.  Water, rocks, sun, privacy, limited if any radio contact. No cell service, no broadband, no telephone. CB might work.
Radio to 50 mhz  would probably work but I am not licensed.

A screen grab of a video put together by Noy Alooshe, an Israeli journalist.
That it is popular among the demonstrators is a hopeful sign.
    Youtube has taken it down.

      Students and Technology, Constant Companions

I have been over this at least twice. My conclusion was that the school needs a change of curriculum.  The kids seem to be in decent shape but the school is trying to force them into patterns their grandparents rejected.  The discussion needed is: what is a HS education?

At Academy Awards, a Coronation for ‘The King’s Speech’
“The King’s Speech” garnered best film and best actor for Colin Firth, but no film walked away with a commanding sweep. Natalie Portman of “Black Swan” won best actress.
There are a number of films I should see. They will be a good excuse for lazy evenings.

X-Rays and Unshielded Infants Raise Alarms
Radiation errors at a hospital in Brooklyn raise questions about the competence, training and oversight of technologists who operate powerful equipment.
This has the appearance of messing up. Reasonable supervision is where a fix starts. This gets followed by vigorous disciplinary action repeated errors can not be tolerated.

    The Contribution Scam
David Cay Johnston has a terrific piece up about the nonsense of comparing government workers to private-sector counterparts by claiming that the government pays for more of their benefits. As he says, . . .

And for good measure:
http://krugman.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/02/27/the-truth-about-pensions/

If the pension schemes are underfunded it is because the employers put those wages to other uses.  This looks like fraud and theft to me.
