A Food Manifesto for the Future
"I’ll expand on these issues (and more) in the future, but the essential message is this: food and everything surrounding it is a crucial matter of personal and public health, of national and global security. At stake is not only the health of humans but that of the earth."
He is more enthusiastic than I but is getting it right.
There will be no new legislation for almost two years.  2013 will see the first actions from Congress.

      More Bone, Less Fat
Excellent comments from all and so glad to see others sharing the extensive research on the positive benefits of exercise. Research studies by design, must look at one aspect of metabolism and then the experts Anna mentions have to put it all together with the entire body of research. Registered Dietitians, such as myself, do look at the whole person. That does't change the fact that individuals might have difficult circumstances; each of us must make the small changes first, [the easy wins] to maintain or improve our health. Long term, our society needs to look at how we can support prevention and good health with more activity and access to healty foods.

Exercise and more exercise starting as early as possible and continuing through life.
The things we do for money are mostly sedentary in this age.  I know I cannot walk and type at the same time.
A standing work station would be a great development.
      Demanding  dogs are another.

    The View From Tahrir
Today President Mubarak seems to have decided to crack down on the democracy movement, using not police or army troops but rather mobs of hoodlums and thugs. I’ve been spending hours on Tahrir today, and it is absurd to think of this as simply “cl...

Over the December holidays, my husband went on a 10-day silent meditation retreat. Not my idea of fun, but he came back rejuvenated and energetic.

    Bye, Bye Mubarak
The dictator who turned Cleopatra’s modern Egypt into his own ancient civilization faces the ire of his people.
Te opposition is trying to get organized.  Dictators are easy. Finding the power in a democracy is very hard. Speaking to it is even harder.
We can't do that for ourselves.

Probably.  Worse than plastic. I have enough trouble controlling my appetites.  Cash does that.  I draw pocket money and deposit the rest, when there is some. I do gas, car repairs, and groceries on plastic in the ordinary course.
