With the Israelis, the Palestinians and the Iraqis, President Obama makes an ambitious reach to change the Middle East.

Obama must make the attempt. I would not put a great deal of money or reputation on success. The parties have no desire to surrender. All of them would gladly accept surrender from the opposition. In this case there is no slack to negotiate.
