Players Pull Out at Wimbledon, and Calls for Reform Flood In

Seven aborted matches in the first round of the men’s tournament — two of them back to back — dismayed fans and had players searching for solutions.

Tennis should be about the players, their athleticism and competition.
The game is not there for the gallery.
The theater of tennis exists for the impresarios.

The show is not the game.
The article is about the show.

Homes for Sale in Brooklyn and Manhattan

This week’s properties are in Hell’s Kitchen, the East Village and Cobble Hill, Brooklyn.

I am looking at set design.
Try to imagine the drama that would play in these sets and private rooms.

For most adults work is life.
For some work supports living.
For children and the unable living is their entire work.

Opioid Prescriptions Fell Over 5 Years, but No Easy End to Addiction Crisis

The prescribing rate in 2015 was lower than 2010, but still three times as high as it was in 1999. Tremendous regional variation around the country remains.

Poppy honey - - Could the bees make it is a first question.

This study tells me things.

Alcoholics Anonymous has a good approach
The treatment for addiction is free will.
Punishment and instruction do not work against addiction.
The statistical anomalies probably indicate the development of the Heroine trade.  The Heroine trade includes the other extralegal opiates.

A broken relationship is a kind of relationship.

Jeff Sessions to Visit Prison at Guantánamo Bay

The attorney general and his deputy were expected to make a gesture of support for the naval base’s continued use as a place to detain terrorism suspects.

The Concentration Camp at Guantanamo Bay should be grounds for impeachment and conviction.
The majority in congress will not act against itself.

Donald Trump Begins Europe Trip With a Stop in Poland

After his visit to Warsaw, Mr. Trump will head to Hamburg, Germany, for a Group of 20 summit meeting with leaders of other major economies.

His translator was less than skillful.
He should have better relations with the U.N.

Art and Museums in NYC This Week

Our guide to new art shows, and some that will be closing soon.

Your choice.
I would see the Peder Balke.
I will not without an additional reason.

The Patient Wants to Leave. The Hospital Says ‘No Way.’

More than 50,000 seniors annually check themselves out of hospitals “against medical advice,” according to a recent survey. They shouldn’t have to, some experts say.

That alternative plan is necessary.

There is no need to retain an elderly patient against their will if they are mentally competent.
The worst that can happen would be the patient drops dead or suffers an injury on the front steps.  Despite the guilty feelings of caregivers that is a competent person's right.

A Health care proxy and a durable power of attorney will help.  A marriage is a bit more powerful.  I would like them all.

Sooner is better.  As soon as you can is best.

I must start a serious search for another physical address in about a month.

Morning Agenda: Buffett Finds a Big Deal in Energy

Warren E. Buffett announced a plan to buy Energy Future Holdings, the long-troubled Texas power giant, to gain its Oncor utilities arm.

"Greg Abel, Berkshire Hathaway Energy chairman, president and CEO, said, “This partnership combines the strengths of two companies that share a common goal of providing exceptional customer service and a commitment to invest in critical infrastructure that will make the Texas energy grid even stronger and more reliable.”"

Conservatives Go Third ‘I’ Blind

How a post-literate movement embraced a semi-literate president.

"On the subject of cycles, Warren Buffett likes to talk about “the natural progression, the three I’s.” As he put it to Charlie Rose in 2008, those I’s are “the innovators, the imitators and the idiots.” One creates, one enhances — and one screws it all up. Then, presumably, the cycle starts afresh."

Maybe the reactionaries will learn.
"Maybe the King's horse will learn to sing hymns.
A lot can happen in a year."
