Jared Kushner, the Prince of Having It Both Ways

He throws his weight around. Then floats above it all. But gravity has a way of catching up.

This does not look good for the Trump administration.
Maybe the electorate will recognize moral hazard.

An Over-the-Top New Yorker Will Run Trump’s Communications Shop

Anthony Scaramucci’s smooth style will be a distinct contrast with the southern drawl and sharp edges of Sarah Sanders, the new press secretary.

Jared Kushner’s Got Too Many Secrets to Keep Ours

The president’s son-in-law is a security risk and shouldn’t be a senior White House adviser.

"What’s particularly debilitating is the way the news and scandals keep dribbling out, making a mockery of White House denials and the president’s credibility. If Trump has nothing to hide, he should stop trying to hide stuff."

Bethanie Mattek-Sands Is Upbeat After Gruesome Injury at Wimbledon

At a rehab session in Manhattan two weeks after she ruptured and dislocated her kneecap in a singles match, Mattek-Sands and her husband displayed some levity.

She will start over in about a year.
She may take to coaching.

Don’t Believe in God? Maybe You’ll Try U.F.O.s

The less religious people are, the more likely they are to think aliens exist.

"Where is everyone?"
              Enrico Fermi

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enrico_Fermi

"An emerging body of research supports the thesis that these interests in nontraditional supernatural and paranormal phenomena are driven by the same cognitive processes and motives that inspire religion. For instance, my colleagues and I recently published a series of studies in the journal Motivation and Emotion demonstrating that the link between low religiosity and belief in advanced alien visitors is at least partly explained by the pursuit of meaning. The less religious participants were, we found, the less they perceived their lives as meaningful. This lack of meaning was associated with a desire to find meaning, which in turn was associated with belief in U.F.O.s and alien visitors."

All religions are axiomatic systems.
Religious systems are incomplete and thus "open".
Free will exists.

"Reality"is not an axiomatic system."
The probability of past events is unity.
The universe does everything all the time.
The "Big Bang" is a "local" event.
Locally only those events that can occur do occur.
The universe has no will.

I cannot impose belief.

How We Define Clickbait (Which We Do Our Best to Avoid)

A senior editor offers some insight into how we think about our digital headlines.

I will cut the Times a bit more slack.
The editors need to work a bit more on content.

Science is always interesting when it is understood.
It is rarely exciting to those who understand it.

Time at the Wheel of No. 22 Is Just a Fraction of Joey Logano’s Week

Being a competitive stock car racer takes more than a fast drive around the track. Every race calls for long days of preparation and simulation.

http://www.iracing.com/

My first car was a Triumph Spitfire bought for $50.
I rebuilt the engine, the transmission twice, the rear end, and more.
I loved the wind and sky.
I did not buy a motorcycle because when the rear end breaks loose, I am not dead.
I parked it when the transmission went again.
I bought an Adirondack Guide boat (plastic).
It is a flat water and a fresh water boat.
I double the carries.
At 16 feet and fifty pounds I need a roof to carry it on.
