What Happened to the American Work Ethic? - Room for Debate
Millions of people are looking for jobs, but aren’t jumping to be seasonal farm laborers. Why is that?
Most of us are not so desperate and not so mobile.
    "Write if you get work."

Protests Alone Are Not a Movement - Room for Debate
Occupy Wall Street must represent the majority of Americans who lack corporate power and political influence.
Occupy Wall Street need do nothing but exist.
Soon the city government will try to remove it.
That will be the time to redirect the energy.
I will cheer from the sidelines for now.

    The Quick Demise of Qwikster
They did two things, a price rise and announced a business split at a future date.
    Their business collapsed.
    They have retracted the announcement.
I do not expect their business to recover as a result.
    Let's look next month.

    India Wedding Band Blues
These musicians have not followed the jazz trajectory.
There must be a difference that prevents such development.
It could be the lack of club work or a hobbled recording industry.
I suspect it is the lack of club work.
Jazz is dependent on the jazz club, an evolution of the speakeasy.
The funeral marching bands of New Orleans developed a music much like this one. When it was brought indoors it quickly developed.
There is a business opportunity here if someone builds venues that allow a music to develop. There must be places to be bad in that pay enough to attract local talent.

However you want to do it.

Occupy Wall Street Should Beware of the Old Guard - Room for Debate
This grassroots movement must avoid being co-opted by big, established organizations like unions and political lobbies.
The "old guard" has their own battles to fight.
    They are out in support.

Europe's Double Dip May Be Unavoidable - Room for Debate
Everybody sees the iceberg looming ahead, but leaders can’t agree which way to turn to avoid it.
The problem is rather obvious.  The treatment for this problem is well known.   Diagnosing the problem is the present impediment.

Krugman has been busy with supporting the Occupy Wall Street gang.  Occupy Wall Street has been leaning on the source of their pain but not on those able to relieve it.
Direct action is rarely the best approach to big problems.

Protesters Storm, Occupy Hart Senate Office Building

Looks like #OccupyWallStreet is morphing into #OccupySenate first and #OccupyCongress soon.Next up: #OccupyWhiteHouse? From a reader: "Here is a live feed to Occupy DC which has stormed the Hart Senate Office Building in D.C. – there are several dozen protestors chanting, arrests being made, and a flag that was hung upside down (sign of distress)."
