Don’t Let the N.Y.P.D. Co-opt Body Cameras

Any potential benefits are lost if we let the Police Department write the rules.

The rules are simple.
A record must be made.
An unedited record must be produced and shared before trial.
If the record cannot be produced, the case is dismissed.
Records without cases cannot be searched or retained without a warrant from a cognizant judge.
A one week period of retention of all video records is allowed.
