Snarled Commutes, Squabbling Agencies and Amtrak’s Penn Station Responsibilities

The task of moving people around the New York City area falls to a tangle of agencies. But when something goes awry, it’s up to Amtrak to sort it out.

I am not happy doing accounting.

Congress has been starving Amtrak for years.
The system needs routine maintenance funds.

The Trump Resistance Found Early Success. Can It Also Find Momentum?

Opposition groups, fresh off a health care victory, are now looking ahead to other issues, the midterms, and a long road ahead.

The anti Trump alliance is real.  It is not dependable.
It will come apart when it is time to elect candidates.

What to Cook This Week

Chicken with apricot and chipotle sauce, roasted cauliflower and two kinds of tacos: We’ve got recipes for Passover, Easter and the days to come.

I will cook vegetarian.
No other rules.

‘It Did Not Stick’: The First Federal Effort to Curb Police Abuse

In 1997, the Justice Department entered its first consent decree, with the Pittsburgh police. Nineteen other cities have followed suit, with varying results.

There is no reason not to try again.

Storms, Though Over, Still Disrupt Delta Flights

Numerous cancellations over the weekend draw ire from passengers.

"The airline said it had canceled about 150 flights on Sunday and about 275 on Saturday. It attributed its continuing troubles to difficulty staffing flights in accordance with federal rules governing how long and how often flight crews can work."
The passengers are still angry.

The Dread of Taxes That Even Beyoncé Can’t Fix

I’m not just flaky. Fear of paperwork is real.

If finances will support the process a  part time book keeper is a help.

As Georgia Vote Nears, G.O.P. Asks if Ideological Purity Matters Anymore

Early voting has begun in a special House election, but in the suburbs north of Atlanta, few seem quite sure what the Republican Party stands for now.

The distance between a Democrat and the most pragmatic Republican is enormous.
The ideological purists are a tiny minority.  The other Republican candidates will split the rest of the block.

The single Democrat should win.

How to Write a New York Times Headline

Editors, not reporters, generally write the headlines, hoping for inspiration while following a long list of rules.

The headline writers do good work.
Occasionally they misrepresent the burden of the story.

To Charm Trump, Paul Manafort Sold Himself as an Affordable Outsider

In letters and memos, Mr. Manafort emphasized his distance from Washington and his willingness to work for free during Mr. Trump’s presidential campaign.

Trump's trouble with the Russians is his own.
Aids serve at the pleasure of their principals.
Too many of Trump's circle were talking to the Russians for it to be accidental or a coincidence.
Evidence will be collected and evaluated.  In the process it will leak to the public.
There will be no rush to judgment.

Impeachment requires  a simple majority vote of the house.

That will require clear proof after extensive debate.
Even if he is acquitted in the senate he will be disabled.
I would prefer that to Pence.
