One Village Mourns Dozens After Bus Accident in France

Most of the victims from the fatal collision were from Petit-Palais-et-Cornemps, a neat low village of about 600. Everybody here knows, or is related to, someone who died.

"“We know that as time goes by, we won’t see them again,” said Mrs. Clion. “A lot of the houses have already closed up. And now there will be even more. Now we have to live, though. It is the future that makes us afraid.”"

With G.M.O. Policies, Europe Turns Against Science

An irrational phobia of genetically modified crops is causing real harm.

"In effect, the Continent is shutting up shop for an entire field of human scientific and technological endeavor. This is analogous to America’s declaring an automobile boycott in 1910, or Europe’s prohibiting the printing press in the 15th century."
These actions were attempted.

Starvation is a choice.

36 Hours in Cape Town

Cities are a way to leave Africa.

After a Delay of Years, Mazda Recalls 4.9 Million Vehicles

The company revealed for the second time in three months that it had known about safety problems for years before alerting customers that there was a problem.

"Mazda announced that it was recalling 4.9 million vehicles worldwide, including 1.4 million in the United States, because too much grease in the ignition switch could cause a short circuit and possibly a fire."

Someone is getting the mechanism of the fire ignition wrong.
I want to know how the fire starts.
These words do not tell me what happens.

South Africa Freezes Tuition Fees After Student Protests

“Government understands the difficulty faced by students from poor households,” President Jacob G. Zuma said, ceding to university students’ demands.

"Universities, which say they are underfunded by the government, had proposed significant increases. The University of the Witwatersrand, a flash point of the demonstrations, had planned a 10.5 percent increase in tuition for next year. In 2015, tuition at the university ranged from $2,400 to $3,500 for a full year at the undergraduate level."

Hoping to Save a Way of Life by Rooting Out Greeks Who Farm on Paper

Christos Gontias, a farmer, is taking on what has long been an open secret in Greece: that hundreds of thousands claim to be farmers for the tax breaks and subsidies.

The nation of Greece needs a subsidy.
It is not going to get one from any of its lenders.
It is bankrupt.
An exit from bankruptcy is the inflation of a national currency.
There are others but they are not available to Greece.
Greece must create a national currency.
Any resident who has not sheltered private wealth outside the Euro is foolish.
Farmland is a good shelter.
