An Island Getaway Where Storms Are Welcome

At these four resorts on Vancouver Island, visitors don’t dread heavy rainfall — they hope for it.

A roof, a bed and a fire.
Add food, storms and a lover.

Louisiana: Former Mayor Seeks to Reverse Convictions

Lawyers for former Mayor Ray Nagin of New Orleans asked a federal appeals court Monday to reverse his 2014 corruption convictions, arguing that a judge gave erroneous instructions to the jury.

http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/2015/10/05/us/ap-us-louisiana-corruption.html

"Nagin, a Democrat who served from 2002 to 2010, was convicted on charges of wire fraud, bribery, money laundering and filing false tax returns. Prosecutors say graft in his administration began before Hurricane Katrina hit in 2005 and flourished afterward. Bribes included money, free vacations and truckloads of free granite for his family business"

He was convicted of taking bribes.
His official actions did not enter the case.

The commissioner of Customs and Border Protection and an A.C.L.U. official discuss use-of-force incidents involving the Border Patrol.

Violence at the border is a police or a military matter.
These agents must be sufficient.

We are not being invaded by armed force.
The border patrol must call in the police agencies to deal with armed smugglers.

Gun Safety Group Sees Room to Reinforce Existing Laws

Everytown for Gun Safety writes that President Obama could help protect potential gun victims by making five small changes to the way existing laws are interpreted.

These actions should be considered.

Gun free zones are probably unconstitutional.
