Nationwide Test Shows Dip in Students’ Math Abilities

Education officials said the decline in scores was unexpected, but could be related to changes ushered in by the Common Core standards.

"The stagnating performance could also reflect the demographic changes sweeping America’s schools and the persistent achievement gap between white students and minorities, as well as between students from poor families and their more affluent peers."
This testing regime has included what were unmeasured groups. The Black and Hispanic were not taught. The disenfranchised have never been educated.
School Boards would like to blame something other than their hierarchic tendencies for the maldistribution  knowledge.

The dip in the measurement is an artifact of the change in the composition of the measured group.  It does not speak well of the persons in charge of selecting the group to be educated.

Obama Administration Calls for Limits on Testing in Schools

The administration acknowledged its own role in the proliferation of tests, and urged schools to make exams less onerous and more purposeful.

"Specifically, the administration called for a cap on assessment so that no child would spend more than 2 percent of classroom instruction time taking tests."

The rest is spin.

Readers are not satisfied by a White House effort to reduce the time spent on standardized tests in the nation’s schools.

A test that students can ignore is not a test of students.

Study Cites Lower Standards in Law School Admissions

The report by the nonprofit group Law School Transparency found that more law schools are admitting “at risk” students with lower admissions test scores.

"As law schools across the country try to keep their classrooms full, many are admitting students with lesser qualifications, including those with a lower admissions test score — considered an important predictor of whether a graduate will earn the credentials to practice law."
