Man Slashed in Face After Argument on Harlem Subway Platform

The 27-year-old man was attacked at 110th Street and Lenox Avenue, in an episode that joined a spate of slashings that have put New York City on edge over the past month.

From this account I can't guess the details.

It was a failure of manners.

When State Control Damages a City

The crisis in Flint raises serious questions about how and when state-appointed emergency managers should intervene.

Arbitrary control is a recipe for disaster.
From an accounting point of view the emergency managers were correct.
The Flint water system and the City of Detroit are metastable
physical structures that are insensitive to accounting decisions.
Doing least first cost management broke the schools and the water delivery system.
The state of Michigan has acquired the costs.
Ultimate responsibility for the damage to the people rests on the governor.

U.S. Soccer Sues Women’s National Team in Federal Court

The lawsuit is a sudden escalation of a labor fight over the team’s collective bargaining agreement with the federation.

"In effect, the lawsuit is a disagreement about whether the team has a valid labor agreement, as U.S. Soccer contends. Nichols has argued that it does not."

They must negotiate a contract.
It appears negotiations are not continuing.
That should void the memorandum of understanding.

New York City Council Members, at Hearing, Defend Raising Own Pay

Two days before they are expected to vote to increase their salaries by nearly a third, council members held the only public hearing on bills that would also enact significant reforms.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_City_Council

The Public should be told why the pay of the council is rising now and why it is rising in a lump.

An additional two and a half million dollars will make little difference to the city budget.

Uber Drivers in New York City Protest Fare Cuts

Hundreds of Uber drivers gathered at the New York headquarters of the ride-sharing service to oppose fare cuts imposed last month, a move the company said lifts demand during slow winter months.

Uber has cut the drivers income per ride.
That is bad labor management.
It should destroy their business model.
Uber can protect itself by violating the Sherman antitrust act.

In the Adirondacks, a Winter Trek Into the Gilded Age

Camp Santanoni, a sprawling compound, opens its buildings to visitors in the winter for only a few weekends, so long as they make the five-mile trip from the main road, often through snow.

I was not aware of the restoration.
I have walked into Newcomb lake and over to Moose Pond.
