New York "first responders" are mercenaries.
We owe them and their survivors the best possible treatment.  Some of them may have earned the title: Hero.
It is an open question in my mind.

      Jon Stewart deserves his credit.

Spending Too Much Time and Money on Education? - Room for Debate
Given that high school and college are no longer a ticket to middle-class life, does our society devote too much time and money to education?
Education is necessary but not sufficient at this time.
Training without a specific job offer is worse than useless.
Training is expensive and removes its recipients from the broader pool of those seeking employment.
Confusing these two is easy and beneficial to those who will receive and impose education.

David Sacks of Yammer on Fostering Dissent - Corner Office
“David Sacks of Yammer on Fostering Dissent - Corner Office http://nyti.ms/rrCBqG”
There are several ways to do a start up.
If it is an engineering start up it is top down managed to create a carefully designed product.
Everyone is concentrating on getting that product out the door soon at a price others can't beat before the learning curve reduces the price further for you.
Issues that do not bear on that are distractions and properly ignored.
Another way is the business managed start up.  There a goal is set and the effort is to design a product and process  to get to that goal.  Democratic forms do very well in that environment.
I am trying to learn something, attractiveness in products, and sell that understanding.  I have not found a satisfactory learning in the classrooms.  I have found other searchers.  They have no more insights to pass along to me.

I will have to deal with this and the rest this evening.
      Lunch, social, and boat repair.
It is 21:00 and I am back at the terminal.
To leave a coastal community without the help of a buy out seems quite draconian.  There should not be private buyers for these places but they did have value and they were home to their residents.  Renters must get help as well as owners.
There will not be another tsunami there soon. but sea level rise will make coastal life very wet.  The details get messy as always.
We could make exceptions for catastrophic flooding but it is always catastrophic.  Best to just move them back up the hill.

Judith Scott-Clayton: The Dark Side of Choice in Higher Education
“Judith Scott-Clayton: The Dark Side of Choice in Higher Education - http://nyti.ms/eCGN4E #education #learning #teacherscollege”
All such choice options require more attention from faculty.
They will thus be perceived as being more expensive for the school.
If the advisors are not on top of things the students will overload themselves.  Also there will be attempts by some to present old work as product.
it really depends on what result is desired all around.
Custom education has always been the right of the privileged.
Standard products are middle class and professional.

"When it is working as envisioned, Mr. Law said, Wikicountability will have a community “of several dozen groups or participants,” who will either post material they have obtained from their own requests or analyze what others have put up."

Branding is powerful.  This is neither about crowd sourcing or accountability.  Carl Rove is toxic.
