    The Start-Up of You
This is not your parents’ job market. Workers need to be able to invent, adapt and reinvent their jobs every day.
Why would I do that for someone else?  If I must have a career it should be mine.  Creativity is not for everyone  Thomas Friedman knows it.

In Retreat, Murdoch Drops TV Takeover
Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation announced on Wednesday that it was withdrawing a $12 billion bid, hours after members of Britain’s Parliament had urged him to do so in a rancorous session.
I hope Rupert Murdoch has crashed for the last time.  No rebirth.

Why Taxes Will Rise in the End - David Leonhardt
Economists have a name for a budget that covers soaring medical costs and pays for the world’s largest military with some of the world’s lowest taxes: a free lunch.
    I would take a shortcut.
Let the country default and receive a much higher interest rate on bonds.  This will force a much higher tax rate.  Highly progressive taxation would be nearly unavoidable and it would be on the Republican party.  The Briar Patch is waiting.

Netflix Raises Price of DVD and Online Movies Package by 60%
Netflix advertised the change as a new choice for consumers, but thousands of the company’s customers complained online.
It will have to get steeper yet to restart the physical rental business.
Here is more pressure on the MPIA.

    On Experts and Global Warming

I have no problems with this argument.
Once A.G.W. is recognized as real we must act to minimize it.
A sudden end to powered civilization is neither desirable or possible. Our actions must be of smaller scale.
    Act we must.
If Japan is willing to bear the expense geothermal power is a possible escape for them and perhaps for us.
It has not been very practical in the past.

Bill Keller Wants to Ban Books
Or at least stop writing them.
Here speaks a man who has read enough.  It is time he went to a less demanding position for a time.  He is not doing his job.

Pick your poison: killer sausages, talking dogs or toxic schnapps?
I refuse to worry about it.  There are real problems.

Revolt in Egypt Dims Star Power of Zahi Hawass
Egypt’s minister of antiquities, Zahi Hawass, was a symbol of national pride until the upheaval in his country drew scrutiny into his relationship with the Mubarak family.

Better than the Taliban.  I rejoice that he is feeling frustrated.

Women’s World Cup: U.S. in First Final in 12 Years
Abby Wambach’s header on a corner kick in the 79th minute and a goal by Alex Morgan in the 82nd broke a precarious 1-1 tie for the Americans.
Maybe I will find time to be a fan.  Not likely.  I celebrate the victory.

Phys Ed: The Science of Toning Shoes
New scientific experiments can be inspired by a simple question, and in the case of John Mercer, that question was, “So, John, do toning shoes work?”
The message is get up and move.  I can do that.

A Pathway Out of the Debt Crisis
Senate Republicans are backing away from the explosive threat that their party made to force the country into default.
This is not a good deal or a real offer.  Better to let it crash.

Why America Needs an Infrastructure Bank
While we have channeled capital into wars and debt, our competitors have worked with infrastructure banks to lay a sound foundation for growth.
I think not.  We have more than a little experience with these things.

The Aube Stakes Its Claim on Champagne - The Pour
After years of anonymously supplying grapes to the cities to the north, the Aube region is unexpectedly in the spotlight, thanks to its independent vignerons.

The Mexican Martini, From Austin, Tex.
The Texas city’s signature drink: a large margarita served in a martini glass, with olives, called the Mexican Martini.

Have one and sleep it off.   I do not like what alcohol does to me.
