Same Vegetables, New Flavors

Cook familiar vegetables like carrots and cauliflower in unexpected ways to brighten the Thanksgiving menu.

What to Cook This Weekend

Make some middle-school tacos, and watch “Stranger Things.” Or, for a more grown-up affair, try a pork tenderloin stuffed with herbs and capers.

Male Mammoths Died in ‘Silly Ways’ More Often Than Females, Study Finds

Most preserved fossils of the beasts are male, scientists found, which offers insights into mammoth behavior.

"“In many species, males tend to do somewhat stupid things that end up getting them killed in silly ways, and it appears that may have been true for mammoths also,” said Love Dalén, an evolutionary biologist from the Swedish Museum of Natural History."

Clarifying a Butter Shortage

For confirmation, our reporter in Paris turned to an impeccable source: his 89-year-old French grandmother, reached on her cellphone while grocery shopping.

Butter is different.
It is not oil or margarine.
The cows are not different.
The market is different.
The olive crop continues to fail.

To Pair With That Thanksgiving Bird, Consider Beer

Wine usually takes the spotlight at the table, but beers are just as good at complementing the meal’s rich, bready flavors.

Hate is too strong a word.

Los Falsos Secretos de la Muerte

By Mario Martz
La muerte: una niña
perdida en Madrid,
— es ingenua, tierna
y melancólica.
No sabe perdonar

Inside Giza’s Great Pyramid, Scientists Discover a Void

Using a technique from particle physics, researchers detected a 100-foot-long space within the monument, but Egyptologists questioned the discovery’s value.

http://www.touregypt.net/egyptmuseum/egyptian_museumk1.htm

"Hany Helal, who is also a co-director of the ScanPyramids project, responded to the criticism, saying that from an engineering perspective, it would not make sense to have such a big void above the Gallery if its purpose was to relieve pressure.
He said the next steps are to have an international discussion with archaeologists to figure out the structure’s purpose. In the future, he added that scientists may use drones to explore the void once they have more information about it.
“We are sure there is a void,” he said. “Now let us continue our research.”"

Thanksgiving Equipment Essentials
