Review: Chef Wang New Sichuan Cuisine in New Hyde Park

Chef Wang New Sichuan Cuisine, which features the fiery dishes of the province for which it’s named and often gives vegetables a starring role, draws students from Hofstra.

The front of the house is accented at Chef Wang New Sichuan Cuisine.

The aesthetics of living puzzle me.

In a modern space, Happiness Bar & Grill serves classic 1950s-style Chinese-American bar-food appetizers along with colorful cocktails — fishbowl size if you like.

Texas Law Decriminalizes School Truancy

Gov. Greg Abbott of Texas has signed into law a measure to decriminalize unexcused absences and require school districts to put preventive measures into effect.

Truancy does not qualify as a crime.
It is the failure of the child to attend school.
The failure to attempt to educate children should qualify as a crime.
Curriculum should be regulated.
The politics of curriculum content are faith based.
Separation of faith and law is personal goal.

Never-Ending Construction Clamor

This week’s subjects include the din of endless construction; rules about unmarried couples sharing a co-op; and asbestos removal procedures.

There is not much that can be done beyond complaining.
"Make some noise of your own. Find out the status of the building permits by visiting the Department of Buildings website. If any have expired, report them to the Buildings Department or 311. You can also report excessive noise (even during permitted work hours), excessive construction debris and work done outside of permitted hours."

I want more than cohabitation.
Cohabitation is a start.
Sooner is better.  As soon as you can is best.

Readers respond to “The Dangers of a Student Data Clampdown” (The Upshot, Economic View, June 14).

We do need to look.
We do not need to look closely.
Looking closely is the responsibility of the teacher.
Looking closely at teachers is the responsibility of the principal.
There may be a need to examine and modify the behavior of school boards.

California: Dismissal Sought for Initiative to Kill Gays

Attorney General Kamala Harris on Tuesday asked a judge to toss out a proposed ballot initiative that advocates killing anyone who engages in gay sex.
