Cochran Asking Blacks to Rescue Him in Republican Primary

Senator Thad Cochran of Mississippi, battling a Tea Party challenge from Chris McDaniel, is courting an overwhelmingly Democratic bloc: black voters.
Blacks; Tea Party Movement

I am glad I don't have to vote in Mississippi.
None of the candidates has any appeal.
I would like to see more democrats in congress but we can live without this one.

North Carolina: Duke Energy Was Warned About Pipe

Records subpoenaed by federal prosecutors show that engineers working for Duke Energy warned the company nearly 30 years before a large coal ash spill.
Water Pollution; Accidents and Safety; Coal; Hazardous and Toxic Substances

There is no statute of limitations on toxic chemicals.
Duke Energy should not recover.
An early death for high profitability then seemed a good deal.

Trial Secondary as U.S. Questions a Libyan Suspect

The Libyan suspected of playing a key role in the deadly attack on the United States Mission in Benghazi is talking freely with American interrogators.
Benghazi Attack (2012); Interrogations; Terrorism; United States Defense and Military Forces; Miranda v Arizona (Supreme Court Decision); Diplomatic Service, Embassies and Consulates

The legal case is doubtful in my mind.
He is not a pirate or a soldier.  He is not extradited. Criminal acts committed in Embassies are the problem of the host country.  There is no effective government in Libya.
He will be a problem for the courts for years to come.
He will not soon be released.
He cannot be placed in the general population of a prison.  He would be killed.

Mark Emmert Plays Down Claims of Hypocrisy by N.C.A.A.

The N.C.A.A.’s president, Mark Emmert was on the stand to defend the organization in an antitrust case that alleges it violated the law by refusing to allow players to profit from their images.

Ending college sports does not seem a bad idea.

The Corporate Daddy

Walmart, the world’s largest public corporation, is a big part of the income-gap problem. It could be a big part of the solution.

But Can They Write Fashion Code?

A number of tech-savvy guys starting their own clothing labels see themselves as entrepreneurs, not designers.

No and they don't need to.
These are marketers, salesmen, they depend on manufacturer's in house designers.

Booksellers Score Some Points in Amazon’s Spat With Hachette

Publishers may lose the skirmish with Amazon, but the fight hasn’t gone unnoticed by independent bookstores, or book buyers.
Book Trade and Publishing; Computers and the Internet; Antitrust Laws and Competition Issues; Books and Literature

Finally it is about ebooks at second hand.
What is the value of a copy of a copy and how the publisher gets paid.

There is no way for the publisher to know a copy has been made or which is the original from the text block code. It is the work as published.  I have no solution. Authors will be paid for paper publication only.  Scanned copies are digital copies.  Films will continue to pay for stories.  Movies will have copyright problems as they go digital.

Egypt Has a Sexual Violence Problem

It doesn’t matter where you stand on the political spectrum — if you are a woman, your body is not safe.
Women's Rights; Women and Girls; Sexual Harassment; Female Genital Mutilation

It is more than a problem.
The"west" is still learning the consequences of gender equality.
Getting gender equality would destroy the stasis of Islam as it is destroying the Christian authority.
Engineering that desirable result is presently beyond my abilities.
Easy and private communication is the place to start.
Early must come the right to inherit and hold property.
This implies the right of identity which is the right to hold opinions.
