The filibuster has its benefits. But unless it is reformed, the Senate will grind to a halt.
The filibuster does exactly what it was intended to do.  We may need to change the rules so that all business on the floor of the senate halts until a super majority for cloture or the collapse of the senator with the floor.
There will be no business done for the next year or until the rules change or the Republican block breaks.

Does IMF Stand for Impressive Macroeconomic Flexibility?
So the IMF is holding a meeting on rethinking macroeconomic policy (I was invited but couldn’t make the timing work.) And the Fund’s chief economist has already made it clear that he’s open to some serious revision of the prevailing paradigm.
      No.
We may get a few days of news relief.
The situation has not changed.  Austerity is just the deck chairs on the Titanic.  The new taxes will not be collected.  The peripheral economies are spiraling deeper into recession and the down-turn is spreading.  They can have inflation or they can have depression.  Inflation is not permitted in the euro zone.  They will have depression.
The banks, all the banks, are broken.

Japan cannot do without the area as area.  They can do without the housing and the residential towns.  The flats and ports can be served by trolley cars that shift an able working population.

I am told that Manhattan was forested until the British occupiers clear cut it keeping warm in 1778.
It is too thin soiled to farm easily.

Halted is where the Republicans want it.  This is what they think is victory.
